Door lock triggers?

Hi All,



I'm considering installing a car alarm myself. I've never installed an alarm before, but have installed car stereos, amps, speakers, etc.



In researching, it seems as though the door lock wires I would have to tap into are in both the driver's side kick panel and passenger's kick panel. The website below that provides a diagram mentions "All four wires are negative trigger and must be diode isolated together". What does "isolated together" mean?



Maybe this project is beyond me, but I think I feel pretty good to connect all the other wires, except for my confusion with the door locks. I haven't bought the alarm yet, I'm just researching to see if I think I can perform the installation. Of course, installing the alarm myself would save me some $$$ (always welcome during the holidays). TIA!

It is the same as following a color coding and may come with a relay box that triggers the locks, OR you have to wire in a relay strip to do what you want...



honestly I can get a remote start alarm installed for $175-$250.

After I buy all the parts, the installation would only save me a couple of bucks...



I would just pay some one to do it..

Depending if you have keyless entry or not they will either be negative trigger or reverse polarity. negative trigger you should be able to connect directly to the wire providing your alarm supplies a negative pulse (Most do).



If you do not have keyless your locks are probably revers polarity, you will have to do 5 wire. If you've never done 5 wire before it can be quite confusing at first.



To add to the fun the GEM module puts the power door locks to sleep after a period of time. You have to wake up the GEM module before the doors will unlock. An easy way to test this is by rolling down your windows, locking and closing your door. Give it a while.. At least 15 minutes to be safe. While standing outside the vehicle hit the unlock button. If it doesn't unlock, the gem is asleep.



For my '07 ST we used a remote box which works awesome. (I dont remember the make of it, a buddie of mine I use to work with hooked me up, he's still in the install business.)



The box houses your OEM remote. Inside the box are 5 wires.

- 1 solders to lock (on oem remote)

- 1 solders to unlock (on oem remote)

- 1 solders to trunk (but we dont have one so no big deal) (on oem remote)

- 1 solders to + (on oem remote)

- 1 solders to - (on oem remote)



You tie that into your remote starter or alarm and away you go. It supplies constant power to your OEM remote and triggers all the buttons connected through your aftermarket alarm/starter. The reason I went with this is so all my exterior lights would illuminate when I disarmed my ST from my remote starter remote. If we didn't use that, the doors would just unlock, no exterior or interior lights.
 
I'm sure you can swing it. I use bulldogsecurity.com for my wiring (remote starters). You can check it out, but here is the diagram for hooking up to the door unlock.;)
