Looking to swap door speakers and looking for recomendations on brands and types?

Does anyone have any experience with Sony X-Plod speakers? Saw 4 ways for good price on ebay??

sony speakers arent worth it (I should know, Im even a sony dealer) They make nice head units but thats about all I would get on the car audio side of things.

What I have is Alpine Type-R Components in the front and Alpine Type R coaxials in the rear and I would recommend these to anyone.

Sony speakers are crap. They sell so many because of thier "ricer" looks.. A nice set of Polk, Alpine, or occasionally Pioneer will do the job nicely. Had a set of Polk DX7's in my '01 Trac. When I sold it I put the factory speaks back in and now have the same Polks in my '07. They have been running off of an amplifier in both vehicles...

That's good to know. I am gonna be changing out my stock speakers soon as well. Probably change out the stock sub too, the factory speakers aren't very good at all.

Mitch,

These are the Pioneers that I have and they sound excellent in my Trac.

The 6x9's fit into the factory openings with no mods. They are an Aramid

and Kevlar composition with Titanium Tweeters, and are rated at 220 watts:

our doors fit 6X8/5X7''s, not 6X9's!! you can make a 6X9 fit but it doesnt seal properly and you wont get the correct low end and mid bass response that you would want. plus 6X9's are generally more expensive, why spend more if it is not going to sound as good.

plus unless you are buying pioneer premier, their speakers arent really any better than the sony's. i owned a shop for a long time and was a premier dealer.

spend the little bit extra and stick with something like polk or infinity. they are both very close in quality and price.

I have Alpine 6 X 8 Type R midrange and Alpine Tweeters in the front doors, running Infinite coaxial in rear doors and infinite tweeters in the rear posts. I am running 6 disk OEM head unit with factory subs and memphis 600 Amp to doors, I like the sound

I just installed 4 Infinity 6 x 8 Model # 6812 CF's in my doors (2002 ST) with the stock radio/cd player and they sound great compared to the stock speakers I removed. Purchased from Cutchfield for $140 for 4. They have a new model out so they have dropped the price from $99.00 for whats in stock (save $60.00 - This is not a sales pitch). I can turn it up close to MAX with little distortion and bass is great (took a few songs to break em in!) If you want more you might want to install a custom sub box setup depending on what you actually want to hear (check the projects section for some awesome help).

You wont go wrong with 4 PIONEER TS-A6881R 4-way speakers ($130).. LUV EM. If you really want to make any speaker perform at their ultimate best, sound deaden the inner and outer door skins. The difference is absolutely worth the extra time and money.
