So I'm currently down to one key for the trac, and have been for a while, and its just started to worry me so I want to get another. I have looked at the ones on ebay that I can have cut and myself. However everything I read says you need 2 working chip keys to program a new one. Is this in fact correct? Or will I be able to program my new key with my single key I have? I dont want to have to go to ford if I can do it myself. But I need another key, just getting that feeling, and Ive learned not to ignore that tug when it keeps coming back.

Thanks!

You cannot program a new key with one key (to prevent valets from copying your key to use later).

It's too bad you didn't get that "tug" to make a key when you had two keys!

You'll need a locksmith or dealer to make another key. Then you can do a third yourself.

I have the same problem. Bought my Trac used with only one transponder key.

Got programming quotes from $80-$200. The low quote was from a mobile locksmith.

Heard some Wal-Mart's or Home Depot's could do it for around $50, none in Hawaii.

My biggest fear was losing it ,and having to tow the car to the Ford dealership.

Lockout +Towing Charge + Programming PATS Key = GOUGE

If you buy blanks off of eBay, and I have, be sure to only buy the OEM FORD labeled or Strattec blanks. Others "could" cause PATS issues per the Ford manual.

Downsouth, the keypad will get you in but not crank your truck.

I can personally recommend this seller since I've bought several from him.

Thanks guys, guess its on to ace hardware then the yellow pages for locksmiths. I would love a new adrenalin...But unless they give me a straight up trade from mine, it unfortunately wont be happening any time soon! I'll get a couple from ebay and get them going...hate to loose the last one!

I bought a new keyfob (wore out the buttons on one of mine) from the dealer and they reporgrammed it for me while it was there for a service.
