I've heard much debate over the steel vs. aluminum drive shafts in STs. How can I tell which one I have? I just got my '05 ST 4x4 XLT 3 days ago, and as I'm preparing for a 6 week school, haven't had time to do a thorough under-carriage inspection. Basically, I'd like to know if I need to get my drive-shaft replaced or not? I've only traveled 181 miles so far, but haven't noticed any vibrations. So far so smooth, so what?

IMO, you should have the aluminum one my '04 trac came with it from the factory. When you look at it, if it is not rusty looking, but aluminum shiny. You have the good one...

You should have the aluminum one, but it's easy to tell since it is not painted and looks like dull aluminum. I have a 2003 and that's what mine looks like.
