I was under the driver's side dash today and found this wire. It seems to run along the bottom of the front console/dash to the passenger side. I have no idea if or what it hooks into under the dash. I don't know if I accidentally pulled it out sometime ago, but everything seems to be working fine. When I pulled out my radio, you could see the wire just sitting along the bottom of the dash running to the passenger side. I have owned the ST since new and haven't had any aftermarket wiring done. Any ideas as to what this is and where it goes? I'm going to go see if I can see where it leads to on the passenger side.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

Nope, just the normal factory stuff and it is functioning properly. This is where it ties into in the passenger side compartment by the fuel reset. It is spliced into a pink with orange strip wire.

Most likely for an accessory/option you didn't get but it was pre-wired. Don't look too hard 'cause you'll likely find more.

Dave,

I think you are right. I crammed my head up under the driver's side dash and found a yellow wire with a splice clip on it coming out of a connector. It looks like it is just waiting for something to plug into it (not my wire though).

Chris

That yellow wire is what came to my mind when I read your post Chris. I found it dangling a year or so back on my 05. As far as I know, the only options my XLT Premium doesn't have (minus the Adrenalin pack) is 4X4 and bed cover.

Since the pink one runs into the passenger kick panel. it's possible that it belongs to the 4X module since it is also located there. Without a wiring manual, I don't know what else it could be for.

That's an aftermarket installation. What color is the wire it is connected to? It almost looks like it's connected to the PINK/GREEN wire or PINK/YELLOW wire. If so it could be your door lock triggers, or possibly a door pin for an aftermarket alarm. It looks like the harness it is connected to runs into the door boot and ultimately into the door.

Sorry, Just read a little further PINK/ORANGE. I believe it's Disarm for your factory alarm. Do you have a remote starter installed?

Here is the panel off.... No wire from OEM....

Just my aftermarket junk....

It is for something some one installed.... Maybe for doing testing ??

Damn Todd, you have an awful lot of wire in that space!!!

Chris said he's had it since new, so I figured he'd know if it was an aftermarket gig or not.

Got me curious now. I had the yellow wire dangle, might just have to see if I have the pink one as well. Of course after the snow subsides!!!

Bought my 2003 with 11 miles on it in October of 2002. It's only been in the shop a few times for service. Tranny and fuel filter at 30K and 60K, rear door handle not working, and then in a few times for a squeak under the hood. During those times, an alternator, belt tensioner, and crankshaft dampener pulley were replaced. Other than that, except for a few minor mods and routine maintenance by me, no one else has worked on it. I know I am getting old and forgetful, but I know that is not my work because I don't use those type of clips.:D

Chris

With that type of splice I would say it was an after thought addition. If you bought it used, and it does go to the fuel reset by chance, that may have been where it picked it power up for the pump as it would have traveled through the relay already..

It came off of the truck two days before I bought it. When I took it out for a test drive it had 3 miles on it. The ST has only seen the inside of Ford service centers and Discount Tire stores over the 6 years that I have had it. This is becoming very intriguing.

Chris

The pink/orange wire is your door unlock wire. Did your truck come built with keyless entry or was it a dealer add-on? Dealer add-on accessories often use the "Scosche lock" type connectors, even if they're OEM parts from Ford.

Since it's pink wire, I'm suggesting that it's a connection to your "feminine" side.

Plug it in and see if you can understand women!

Rodger, I could but Im 0ver 200 miles from frisco, tx. We have a couple of members in allen and plano within 20 miles though...:)

Jerry,

I wish it was THAT easy. Been married almost 18 years and still don't understand her.

Okay,

I think I have figured it out. All of this talk has got the brain working again. I bought the vehicle from Villa Ford in Orange, CA. They had a small lot and used to park excess vehicles at the mall next door. If memory serves me correctly, I think there were stickers on all of the cars that said they had active alarms installed in them. It wasn't a dealer add-on just something that they did to protect their vehicles. When they prepped it for me, they probably removed the main parts but left the remnants.
