You have to throw some Neil Diamond in there.

There is an odd effect with his music, the ride just happens to slip away and next thing you know you are there.

Long story short, was able to make it from Oswego, NY to Watertown, NY/Thousand Islands in about 2 hours but it felt like 15 minutes because we were jamming to Neil. Back ground on this - 4 guys, 1 sober (and he was going to learn how to drive a 5 speed, quickly) - 3 lit from hitting a few of the old haunts in Oswego - we did not have to stop once to pee between Oswego and Watertown. No way we make it 2 hours, it HAD to have only been 15 minutes.

Oddly our first stop was the state trooper station in Watertown. We had to pick up our buddy who just so happens to be a trooper. 3 drunks roll out of the car and practice walking the lines in the parking lot.

So, Neil Diamond if you want to make time fly. I also suggest watching the movie Saving Silverman. Stupid funny.

Note: SUNY Oswego just won the D3 hockey championship last weekend.

I LOVE A RAINY NIGHT

Eddie Rabbitt

* Well I love a rainy night (2x)

I love to hear the thunder

Watch the lightning

When it lights up the sky

You know it makes me feel good

Well I love a rainy night

It's such a beautiful sight

I love to feel the rain

On my face

To taste the rain on my lips

In the moonlight shadow

# Showers wash

All my cares away

I wake up to a sunny day

'Cause I love a rainy night

Yes I love a rainy night

Well I love a rainy night (2x)

Repeat *

Puts a song

In this heart of mine

Puts a smile on my face every time

'Cause I love a rainy night

Yes I love a rainy night

Ooh I love a rainy night

Yeah I love a rainy night

Repeat #

Here's a couple of tunes by Janic Joplin:

Mercedes Benz

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends.

Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,

So Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?

Dialing For Dollars is trying to find me.

I wait for delivery each day until three,

So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a color TV ?

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?

I’m counting on you, Lord, please don’t let me down.

Prove that you love me and buy the next round,

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a night on the town ?

Everybody!

Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

My friends all drive Porsches, I must make amends,

Worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends,

So oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes Benz ?

That’s it!

Me & Bobby McGee

Busted flat in Baton Rouge, waiting for a train

And I’s feeling nearly as faded as my jeans.

Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained,

It rode us all the way to New Orleans.

I pulled my harpoon out of my dirty red bandanna,

I was playing soft while Bobby sang the blues.

Windshield wipers slapping time, I was holding Bobby’s hand in mine,

We sang every song that driver knew.

Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose,

Nothing don’t mean nothing honey if it ain’t free, now now.

And feeling good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues,

You know feeling good was good enough for me,

Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee.

From the Kentucky coal mines to the California sun,

Hey, Bobby shared the secrets of my soul.

Through all kinds of weather, through everything that we done,

Hey Bobby baby kept me from the cold.

One day up near Salinas, Lord, I let him slip away,

He’s looking for that home and I hope he finds it,

But I’d trade all of my tomorrows for one single yesterday

To be holding Bobby’s body next to mine.

Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose,

Nothing, that’s all that Bobby left me, yeah,

But feeling good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues,

Hey, feeling good was good enough for me, hmm hmm,

Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee.

La la la, la la la la, la la la, la la la la

La la la la la Bobby McGee.

La la la la la, la la la la la

La la la la la, Bobby McGee, la.

La La la, la la la la la la,

La La la la la la la la la, hey now Bobby now Bobby McGee yeah.

Na na na na na na na na, na na na na na na na na na na na

Hey now Bobby now, Bobby McGee, yeah.

Lord, I’m calling my lover, calling my man,

I said I’m calling my lover just the best I can,

C’mon, where is Bobby now, where is Bobby McGee, yeah,

Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lord

Hey, hey, hey, Bobby McGee, Lord!

Yeah! Whew!

Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lord

Hey, hey, hey, Bobby McGee.

I thought Train Train was by Blackfoot?

Maybe it's another song I'm thinking of.

I saw a CD put out by Harley Davidson in a music store once, and didn't get it because I was looking for something I'd promised my wife, and didn't have enough for both. It had a lot of good stuff on it. I couldn't remember later where it was, though.

Oh, and Uneasy Rider by Charlie Daniels!

Santana's older tunes. The first greatest hits cd got me from Tuscon to Atlanta. Also like Jaco Pastorius and Marcus Miller.

Hey,

Here's a few more that haven't been mentioned:

"Life Is A Highway" -- Tom Cochrane

"Saulsalito Summer Nigh" -- Deisel

"Driver's Seat" -- Sniff n' the Tears

"Pananma" -- Van Halen

Z

Don't forget the one that started it all:

"Rocket 88" by Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm, believed to be the first rock and roll song. It was released in 1951.

There is a current canadian group called The Roadhammers and almost all there songs are "driving songs". They are geared toward truckers as most of the songs directly relate to them. They are labeled as a country music group but many of there songs are not what I would really call country music. There music is only available in Canada. I happened to be in Saint John, New Brunswick during their CCMA awards last year and heard them singing and picked up one of their CD's and I like to play it when driving.

The Road Hammers
