I just need to rant alittle, sorry.

What the hell is with all the spam now-a-days? This is rediculous. I have a spam blocker that can't filter it due to the way it's formatted. It gets some but not all. I know some of it is just people doing thier jobs but damn it's annoying. I don't get telemarketers calling anymore so I guess this is the draw-back. Just have to deal with it on my computer. Why can't they just leave us alone? i don't really care what "hot stocks" they have or how much they can save me on medications. Just let me have my e-mail from people I want to hear from and shove that crap where the sun don't shine.

Rant off. Thanks.;)

Have you ever noticed that once a new person emails you, all of a sudden you start getting more spam? Then they get personalized with your name and email addy in the subject. This is because of the way email is sent across the wire. It is not hard for people to capture the data, especially the headers.

I've noticed that to. Also, it would be nice if you could forward this crap back to them and overload thier mailbox with the stuff. I'd spend some free time doing it if I could.:)

I am actually getting email errors because of all the spam filters I have to reduce the volume of spam I get. It's gotten totally out of control and needs to be stopped by someone.

I think AOL has a smart idea where emails are rejected unless you have them on your list. If you are not on the list an email is sent back to the sender asking them to fill out a form for permission to send you an email. Then you decide if you want to get any further emails. Most spammers will not bother returning the form since most are using spoofed email addresses and you will never be annoyed by spam. I would like to see a similar system available for everyone as part of a spam filtering system.

All that does is confirm the bas---well the guys with unwed parents --have a real email address. Then they sell it to 3000 other spammers

biznaga,

The fact that it confirms your email address is insignificant since they cannot get the mail into your mailbox unless they fill out the form, and they won't do that. It keeps the spam out of my mailbox so I don't have to look at it or filter it, or trash it, etc, and that's all I want.

If every email client or webmail service had a similar email filtering system that required the mailer to fill out a form for permission, the spammers would simply go out of business since their spam is being rejected by everyone.

It's not so different than the caller-id system that lets you reject calls where the caller had their number blocked.

No law will eliminate spam since many of the spam emails are generated and sent from other countries.

I used a filter call Spam Soap for my office and it is great. It is constantly updated and filters out about 99% of spam. Each user receives a daily report showing what was blocked and they can either leave them alone, delete them, or mark it is not spam. I have tried others including Brightmail but this one seems to work the best. Yes, a few here and there get through but nothing can catch them all and filters that make you add people to a list are just not practical for a business of our size. Too high a chance of emails not being received.

What Rich is talking about is great for a home user or small business.

Some people have tried to fight back against the spammers, but so far, the spammers are winning. Take a look at the following link.

No Spam? How would I know about Nigerian Astronauts taht need our help?

I am Dr. Bakare Tunde, the cousin of Nigerian Astronaut, Air Force Major Abacha Tunde. He was the first African in space when he made a secret flight to the Salyut 6 space station in 1979. He was on a later Soviet spaceflight, Soyuz T-16Z to the secret Soviet military space station Salyut 8T in 1989. He was stranded there in 1990 when the Soviet Union was dissolved. His other Soviet crew members returned to earth on the Soyuz T-16Z, but his place was taken up by return cargo. There have been occasional Progrez supply flights to keep him going since that time. He is in good humor, but wants to come home.

In the 14-years since he has been on the station, he has accumulated flight pay and interest amounting to almost $ 15,000,000 American Dollars. This is held in a trust at the Lagos National Savings and Trust Association. If we can obtain access to this money, we can place a down payment with the Russian Space Authorities for a Soyuz return flight to bring him back to Earth. I am told this will cost $ 3,000,000 American Dollars. In order to access the his trust fund we need your assistance.

Consequently, my colleagues and I are willing to transfer the total amount to your account or subsequent disbursement, since we as civil servants are prohibited by the Code of Conduct Bureau (Civil Service Laws) from opening and/ or operating foreign accounts in our names.

Needless to say, the trust reposed on you at this juncture is enormous. In return, we have agreed to offer you 20 percent of the transferred sum, while 10 percent shall be set aside for incidental expenses (internal and external) between the parties in the course of the transaction. You will be mandated to remit the balance 70 percent to other accounts in due course.

Kindly expedite action as we are behind schedule to enable us include downpayment in this financial quarter.

Please acknowledge the receipt of this message via my direct number 234 (0) 9-234-2220 only.

Yours Sincerely, Dr. Bakare Tunde

Best way to eliminate spam, use a mail handler that has some type of automatic inbox rules processing (like Outlook Express's inbox assistance). Then setup a rule that every incoming mail that is NOT from someone in your contact list goes to a Spam folder, and then enmasse clear out that spam folder once a week. Also, look periodically for stuff in your spam folder that is from NEW people you want to converse with and add them to your Contacts list. And, make sure whenever exchanging email with people to reach out first...as most mail handlers have a setting to automatically add people to your contacts list if needed when you send them email.

Also, I filter Spam through my cable ISP (Comcast) and they do a really good job.

Stone,

You have mail !!!!! :lol::lol::lol::lol:

COULD NOT RESIST !!!!!!

Filling out that form thing on AOL or whatever is a joke. A business acquaintance sent me an email, I replied and it came back with the message that I must fill out the info before my email would be accepted. I am telling you now if anyone reading this is using this kind of service don't bother emailing me because I am not filling out crap so you can receive a reply to an email you sent me in the first place. The more I think about it the more ridiculous it becomes in my mind. LOL
