Anybody have any knowledge on these exercise machines? I am considering either the Nordic trac 800 for $799 or the Schwinn 418 for $799. I have done some research, looked at reviews, etc. Both seem pretty good with mostly pro's, but I was wondering if anybody had any real world experience with them. Thanks

We have the Nordic Trac CX1055 model and it is sweet. Very strong and not flimsy like some other brands out there. This club level equipment

freeport,

I think you really need to see if you can get on them and try them out. I had a ProForm a few years back, but didn't like it because the rotation took you up, kind of like a stair-climber, instead of extending you - like running. I just didn't care for that particular motion at all, and sold it off.

My grand father is selling his nordic trac tredmill for $499 if you are interested. Im in NJ if you are near and want to pick it up.

I run a gym and I'm not a fan of anything Nordictrac. There are several companies out there that buy used pro equipment and refirbish them. The quality is unbeleivable and you get a great deal. I beleive one is called bigfitness.

We just got a Nordic Track from Sears (I know...they make "special" models just for them, I should know better) and so far am NOT happy. You get what you pay for. Another piece of exercise equipment in our basement gathering dust.

I have the Schwinn 418. We got it about 2 years ago. I generally like it because the stride was longer than many ellipticals I tried out.

The one thing that I do not care for is the LCD display. It is not backlit and sometimes can be hard to read with bright lights overhead.

Follow up to John's comment--another one is 2nd Wind. I'm not sure if they're nationwide or not, or if they might ship nationwide, but it's worth a search. I suspect they're either 2ndwind.com or 2ndwindexercise.com.

We have a New Balance 9.0 and it is holding up well. Had it for about 8 months so far with no problems. With the savings that we received I did purchase an extended warranty for an extra 2 years parts and labor. Not a lot of data was available so I figured 1 year manufacturer + 2 years extended warranty would be sufficient. I knew that the amount of time I'll spend on it will make it or break it. I do preventive maintenance as well like cleaning and tightening, etc...

I did try a lot of models in the stores and this one fit me best. I was use to the lifefitness models at the gyms and this was the closest thing I could find for less than 1k.

edit: I use this thing about every other day. Anywhere from 30-45 mins each time with random resistance settings.

NordicTrack used to be excellent equipment. However, Pro-Form bought out NordicTrack and it is all the same stuff-- it just has a NordicTrack label on it.

Freeport, we got the "Freemotion", and it's a nice unit, just a few things I don't like:

1) The seat assembly is supposed to go on and off easily for different exercises. Ours is warped or bent or something because the hooks that the seat bracket has don't easily slide over the pegs on the support. I literally had to rubber mallet it on (it's just supposed to slide over). I have ordered a replacement part, but they are on backorder for over a month now...hhhmm, wonder why.

2) My wife complains that on some exercises the single weight setting (10lbs + 10lbs for the bar; 20lbs total) is too much weight. It's as if the cables are binding, but I am sure they are all correct, everything lubed and everything running right without kinks (the unit came "pre strung"). It's as if things are binding, especially since at that weight setting sometimes the weights won't even drop. Seems like too much tension/friction, but I can't see where or why, and customer service was of no help.

Check out LifeFitness and Precor machines. These are the best on the market. Not too expensive, depending on what model you get. I have been in the field of fitness and wellness for over 3 years now. I have personal trained people as well as do memberships at French Riviera Spa here in LA. Check these machines out! They are great! My parents have a LifeFitness elliptical and the gym I currently work at has Precor. Hope this helps! -DD ST

I would like to get one that is 500-1000 dollars. Somewhere in that price range. Do you think it will be a good quality one, do not want to spend several thousand dollars.

You honestly will not get a good quality one at that rate unless you find someone wanting to really give you a deal on a nice used one. You will spend about $2,000 on a good one. About $4-6,000 on a nice one!
