Engine cleaning

How do you guys clean your engine? I have never done it and I am a bit confused on how to do it. My 05 engine is not real dirty and I want to not let it get bad.

I just go to the self service car wash, wrap my K&N air filter cone with a plastic bag, and "Git-er-done".

Cover up your intake filter, if you have an aftermarket one, and spray some Simple Green in there. Let it sit for a few minutes and then just hose down.
