There is no real life expectancy for gasoline vehicle engines. A well maintained enigne should last for the life of the vehicle. That means the rest of the vehicle will probably go before the engine wears out.
Normal engine wear can be repaired to like new, so a well maintained engines can easily go 100K, 200K miles 300k or more. Then something can just break unexpectedly in the first fe thousand miles?? The real question is, how much do you want to spend to continue to maintain or repair the old engine?
Usually when the cost of repairs is close to, or exceeds the value of the vehicle, it's time to throw in the towel. You either need to sell it, junk it, or restore it Restoring the vehicle is only worth it if you like doing it, and the restored value of the vehicle will exceed the high restoration costs.
