Need some help. I bought a used factory 6 CD radio and we did not know that you had to somehow secure the cd mechanism when shipping. It has a CD error and is saying that the deck is full. There are no CDs in the unit. Maybe the changer came off a track. Has anyone had this happen and know how to fix it? Anyone take one of these apart? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, if it was shipped without a shipping bracket installed, the unit will probably have to be sent to a repair shop and I don't the the repairs are very cheap.

If you are handy with tools and mechanically inclinded you may be able fix it yourself. I only know of one person here who was able disassemble the unit and get the CD transport back on track, and that was Coastiejoe. I think he said it took him about 2 or 3 hours of tinkering to fix it. You may want to contact him for tips, or see if you can give him a few bucks to fix your for you if he has time>

I found a shop here locally (to me anyways) that does those type of repairs. I have not used them, but thier feedback on ebay is favorable.

The radio comes apart fairly easily.

I had the CD deck, faceplate display, and all boards apart and out when I added remote up/down scan buttons.

Chops,

Putting something back together is much easier if you took it apart. If is became disassembled, it is often much harder to to figure out how it supposed to go back together.

The CD transport mechanism does not just drop back in place. My understanding is that there are a lot of linkage parts/pieces that must be positioned just right for the unit go back together. Without a diagram, 4 hands and 18 fingers it's a bit harder.
