Firist Check Engine Light at 36,000 miles...took it to autozone and they said i need a new egr valve or i need or have it cleaned out...well i bought a new vavle and im planning on putting it on today...any suggestions or extra tips...

was it the vavle, or the sensor? sensor is the most common one.

What was the code? Whas it a 401 code? I would replace the DPFE sensor before I replaced the EGR valve. I believe the sensor is cheaper than the valve. The DPFE sensor is notorious for going bad. A search will reveal some more info on this valve. I just changed mine out around two weeks ago. Solved my problem!

Give us the actual code, but I am with the others that you do NOT need the EGR. You will need the sensor if it is anything like every one else in the past reference this issue.
