I am due for my first oil change and am definitely going synthetic, I'm just wondering if Royal Purple is the best bet and if it's really worth the price difference? I've heard good things about it both protection and performance wise, but is it really worth the extra money or are the other synthetics just as good?

I use royal purple but I have heard that others like mobil1 too. I think they're about the same price per quart, mobil1 may cost a bit more...at least it does here in HI.

Do a search on motor oils and you'll find a bunch of different opinions. But yeah, I would go with either of the 2. What they do for your engine is well worth the extra $$ IMO.

don't waste your money.

use the recommended syn blend.

your trac is not a a high perf vehicle & and the factory rec is fine

Be ready for Rodger to explaing why RP is THE BEST. Between Mobile1 & Rp, I couldn't tell any difference but I went the RP way JUST in case...

Don't stress over it.

Dino will be fine, just change it every 3 k miles, I run RP for 10 k miles

Figure 18 Qts of dino V/S 6 qts of RP over 10 K miles, the cost is a wash, maybe more for the Dino.

lol i like them both (RP and Mobil extended performance)

i use mobil 1 most of the time but do occasionally drop in some RP

One of our members(johnnyO I think) got good test results from Penzoil Platinum syn. Me Im cheap, Motor craft syn-blend and 5K oil changes. Been doing that on all my regular rides for ages. Never lost a motor or had oil related problems. My '94 mustang I sold, was the only car I ran full syn in(M1). The 302 wasnt stock and I ran it hard though. I might save some $$ and do full syn with 12K changes and filter at 6K. It would depend on prices of the oil. Driving habits determine alot IMO.

Have you thought about AMSOIL? That is what I'm using along with an AMSOIL filter. Suppose to be good for 1yr or 25,000 miles. With s&h it cost me about $97.
