Well he called back Friday at 4:45ish...said he talked to a local Ford Dealer (Van Bortel Ford), and he gave them my VIN number, and my truck came up as needing this flash under this TSB.

I'll be calling them myself on Monday morning...AFTER I call another Ford Dealership and ask them the same question.

I still feel like this is not for my truck (V8) and I shouldn't have to pay to have this done...let alone take the time out of my busy schedule to drop my truck off for the day, deal with getting rides to and from, or wait an hour or hour n half for the job to be done. Im more pissed about the hassle, not the money!

The tsb I have on file clearly states that this is for a 4.0, I can find no other TSB's that relate to flashing the pcm for a cooling system problem.

Keep in mind that there probably are updates for your ST but if it ain't broke don't fix it or you may end up needing to fix it becasue you broke it.

Just an update -- I talked with two other Ford Dealerships this morning, they both said that there is no TSB with my truck for the PCM reprogramming and cooling. I called the maintenance shop and told them this. And then asked that he has his Ford Dealership person he talked to fax me the TSB they found that is associated with my truck.

Luke,

1ltech is a knowledgeable automotive tech with his own shop, and I think he was formerly a Ford tech, so I have the most respect for his opinions and his technical knowledge. If ye says a TSB for the V8 cooling system flash does not exist, and my guess is that he is 100% correct.

It sounds like you have a good plan to find out the TSB number that the radiator repair shop is referencing... I think we all would be interested in knowing the outcome of this issue, so please keep us updated.

I am thinking the radiator repair shop is just blowing smoke to get out of doing warranty work, and perhaps got caught doing a bad fix on a radiator and not actually replacing it. I am very suspicious since you said the leak is in the exact same place as the previous leak...That's why I like to get the old parts returned to me when the old part is not required for a core charge.

If the shop fails to provide you with a valid Ford TSB that applies to your vehicle, I would question their business ethics and put in a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, and any other technical sanctioning organization they claim to be a part of.

Well folks...the other Ford Dealership that he was referring to is one of the biggest in the area. They faxed me the TSB they said my VIN was associated with...it turned out to be the same one the Auto Shop gave me (for the 4.0, not the 4.6).

I didn't want to call again, so I got in my car and drove to the shop and said I would like them to print out their service order receipt without the warranty statement on there. He said he couldn't do that right there, that he had to check with the place he bought the radiator from to make sure they were in agreement; and he mentioned that if this is the case, then he shouldn't have had to pay for my second radiator. So I asked if it was from a place they regularly purchase from...he said yes, lots bought from them...and most in the area purchase from them...so I told him I'm sure they wouldn't charge you like you said they did, or honor the warranty, etc... He didn't want to hear any of that.

So in the end, they emailed me this morning a new 'receipt' without the warranty statement on there. But that it is covered for the 12k/12mo.

Wow, what a pain in the arse! Thanks for all your input and knowledge with this!

Funny thing is, now I feel like I should still go get the PCM Reprogrammed cause I don't want to have to deal with this again (if in fact that IS really the cause!). :)
