I have a question about the project for a 01 ST, making the fogs on with lows and highs. When I do this project, does this mean that when I turn my lights on, the fogs will come on also? What about the fog light button?

No, This is when you put on your high beams it does not shut off the fog lights.. The button works as it normally does..

yep, the reason why the fogs shut off is to increase your distance vision. Leaving the fogs on while the brights are on defeats the purpose of the high beam lights.

I posted this the other day and did not get the answer to my last ? which was: " did anyone check their ST to see if there's did the same?"

I noticed something odd with my lights a few nights ago. When I switch from low beam to high, the fogs go out like normal. When I switch back to low beams with the signal stalk, the fogs come back on BUT the high beams stay on with the fogs! If I push in on the rotory switch to shut the fogs, then the high beams go out also, Am I making sense? Anyway, I do like the fact that I can get the fogs and highs on together without doing any other mods. Maybe it has something to do with the fact I have an upgraded headlight harness. I have it because I have 100 watt PIA Xtreme White bulbs and I don't want the stock sockets melting. BTW I have an 04. Gary D. in CT

All my switches are good and no relays are sticking, I wondering if it's the harness upgrade that allows this to happen. If so, this is the way to go for this mod, no cutting of any wires.

explain? Ok, it's simple. When your high beams are on, you gain additional distance vision, right?

Ok, now if you setup your vehicle to put the Fogs on, now you have introduced a bright source of light nearer to your eyes. This will in effect REDUCE your distance vision. Why do you think Ford wired the fogs to shut off when you switch on the brights?

Darin, IIRC it is because most states have laws saying that you can't have 4 light sources on at the same time if they are over a certain wattage. Not because of vision. Although your explanation sounds logically correct, I don't believe it is.

So, Darin. Using your logic, my distance vision ought to be shot to hell in the daylight!

I have my highbeams on with the fogs and it does not hurt your distance driving IMO. I can toggle the driving lights on and off obviously with the high beams on and I feel the extra visibility on the shoulders is well worth it. If you have not tried it and are speaking only with speculation, you really don't know.

Of course having an extra pair of 65W driving lights that come on with the high beams helps too!

I use the high beams with the fog lights also, mainly because I drive a twisting, curvy road at night. The more light the better for seeing those pesky deer! I've NEVER had a problem with not be able to see because of the fogs being on.

And I believe Doug is correct, it's because of state laws regarding the number of lights allowed on your vehicle.
