?? for a Ford build expert, '08Escape roof rails removal

I want to remove the roof rails from my wifes '08 Escape. The problem is I can not get any of the screws to break loose. They were easy on my Trac. With the sun roof open, I can look between it and the headliner. I cant tell if the backside of the hardware, is a rivet as the trac has. Or if it is some kind of a acorn nut with only two flat sides. Never seen anything like it. If it is a nut and not threaded rivet, that would be why I cant loosen them from the outside.

Hoping some of our Ford employees on here have an, answer....:blink:

Are you able to pull some of the door trim down and get a better look? I know in the Trac it comes down pretty easily. Anything is possible but I would think they would be able to loosen from the outside. Sorry that wasn't much help.

Iam a bit hesatant to mess with the door trim and headliner. It has side curtain air bags...
