What is the best computer / internet security? I am running a Lynksys wireless network, and XP Media Center Edition (NTFS) on a Dell XPS 600. I am getting a wireless intruder, and some other weird crap like spyware, etc. I am useing Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security software that came with Dell package. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am asking because some people here said that Norton was no good either, but I never had any problem with it. Thanks :D:D:D

Is your wireless network secure? Did you set up the SSID and password?

The only way you are getting a wireless intruder then is if they cracked your WEP key (which isn't that hard if you know what you are doing but pretty unlikely)

Run this program

http://www.computermaint.com/CloseApps.exe

Then run full scan of your trendmicro along with ad-aware and ewido both available for free download.

If you know how then run them in safemode. If not just disregard that statement.

That will get rid of 90% of problems. If you still have problems then it will have to get more serious.

Trend Micro PC-cillin is a great program. As good if not better then Norton. Also consider downloading Windows Defender (it's free). Make sure you have a firewall.

In addition try ZoneAlarms free personal firewall and LavaSofts free spyware scanner. Both are very good programs and are completely free.;)

My bad. It may not work for XP Media Center Edition. Says it's for XP and 2000. I assumed that covered XP Media Center but maybe not.

In all the networks I've setup, I've:

1. MAC address filtering

2. At least WEP encryption (depending on hardware)

3. Set router to not broadcast SSID

As munt pointed out. If you use the MAC address option even if they have your password they still can not use your service

Munt, I get to 89% & the download stalls for both your site & the Microcsoft site. Are you referring to the Physical Address for the Ethernet Local Area Connection? What is a "Tunnneling Adapter (Teredo & Automatic) Tunneling Pseudo-Interface? How do I set the fiitering?

Curt, I did figure out that I do have WEP encryption. How do I check to make sure that I am not broadcasting the SSID?

:D
