Here is the link, but this &H!T needs to end...

There should be no mercy of any kind. Simply a swift and aggressive killing of the pirates. We need to send a message to let them know we will not play games....

Agreed, Kevin. But sadly, now the surviving pirates are going to be brought back to the US and become a burden on US Taxpayers for the rest of their miserable lives. And a sympathetic US mainstream media will portray them as poor, starving folk just trying to survive when they're actually Muslim terrorists/pirates.

Last time we dealt appropriately with Muslim terrorist pirates was during the Barbary Wars of the early 1800's.

We should send in SpecWar teams to take out these pirates at the source. Hit them swiftly and quietly in the dead of night and take 'em out. At least take some out to strike fear into the rest and let them know that we can get them anytime anywhere, and they're not safe so long as they prey on innocents on the sea.:fire:

I know that our SpecWar teams can do this, but sadly, our leadership in the White House and the upper echelons of the Pentagon do not have the stones to make it happen. Obama would be too concerned about PC and PR fallout, and the brass at the Pentagon are too worried about their own careers to exercise real leadership in this issue.:banghead:

I fully grasp the issues why and why not we do things. But in this case,,, I am SOOO beyond even caring.

We need to set a precedence and it NEEDS to be a substantial one.

I see no issue and very little possibility of blowback should we just blow pirate ships out of the water.

What's the sense in having the largest, most sophisticated Navy in the world if not willing to use it on sh!theals like this?

Sometimes it sure is better to have a cowboy in the Whitehouse!!!

No sympathy from me. What the hell were they doing in a pleasure boat anywhere near Somalia? The US shouldn't waste any tears or effort on these Darwin candidates.

Problem is you don't necessarily have to be that close. The pirates are working off of mother ships now and venture 200 mile or more from shore.

I say change the Law Of The Sea Treaty to allow arming merchant ships. I don't see why the U.S. taxpayer should pay for it.

Here's how the Russians handle it:

Somalia has a monopoly on the south end of the Suez canal; the passage between the Horn & the Arabian Peninsula at the Red Sea is about 13 miles wide.

There are myriad people who pleasure cruise the world over, I don't see their location as being that absurd. Not like the Americans who went "hiking" in Iran, for instance.

The pirates are working off of mother ships now and venture 200 mile or more from shore.

Also this is so.

Did anyone else see the Spike TV terrorist special naval task force show over Summer 2010? In case you did not, the show televised the USN's anti-somalian task force. In the first episode, the USN finds a pirate speed boat (with weapons, shown on screen), yet can only fire warning shots per the UN stance.

So the pirate ship merely dumps its weapons overboard (which was also televised), and tries to run away. The naval cruiser, which is actually faster than the small speedboat (which never ceases to amaze me) had no recourse but to sail in a huge circle around the speedboat, and use its massive wake to bring the speedboat to a halt.

The pirates were then captured, but couldn't be charged as they had no weapons, so they were given to the Somalian police, and basically went right back to pirating again.

Last time we dealt appropriately with Muslim terrorist pirates was during the Barbary Wars of the early 1800's.

Back then, Britain had the world's most impressive Navy, and they were content to simply pay tribute. Now, it's America which has taken that stance. Ugh. I wouldn't be surprised if only a handful of Americans knew who Stephen Decatur was today.

Yeah- a guy who wears a flight suit for a photo-op and declares a war over when our guys are still dying and will be for years is a real cowboy- interesting how soon people forget...less than a year ago....

"Navy snipers on the stern of a destroyer cut down three Somali pirates in a lifeboat and rescued an American sea captain in a surprise night-time assault in choppy seas on Easter Sunday, ending a five-day stand-off between a team of rogue gunmen and the world's most powerful military.

It was a stunning ending to an Indian Ocean odyssey that began when freighter captain Richard Phillips, 53, was taken hostage on Wednesday by pirates who tried to hijack the US-flagged Maersk Alabama. Captain Phillips, from Vermont, was held on a tiny lifeboat that began drifting precariously toward Somalia's anarchic, gun-plagued shores.

The operation, personally approved by US President Barack Obama, quashed fears the saga could drag on for months and marked a victory for the United States, which for days seemed powerless to resolve the crisis despite massing helicopter-equipped warships at the scene."

They were in a flotilla of boats gaurded by the navy for safe passage, all was well until they decided to leave the group and venture closer to shore, all Darwin award winners.IMO

I agree with Bill Barber, Those people were two *******' that deserved what they got. Sorry but it's true. Thye were told there was pirates out there , they're no strangers to the sea life and know the consequences of leaving a guarded fleet of ships/ boats but left anyway. *******'.

Jerry, Bill..

So what you are saying is,,, They "deserved" to die. They "deserved" to be held captive. They "deserved" to be shot????

I strongly disagree. I am not saying they were smart for being where they were, I am saying they did not deserve to die. Thousands and thousands of other Americans have made the trip these guys were making. I suppose they all "deserved" to die as well...

These were Americans held captive, we as a country need to do what we can to prevent this from happening again.

Even the dumb people that walk into (aka hike into Iran) another country don't "deserve" to die. That said, in those cases I can fully see how they are held accountable and or die. But that does not mean they "deserve" to die...

Bottom line, if this was your parents or family member would you feel the same way? Even if you did, how would you feel if others said they were stupid and "deserved" to die?

No one deserves to die (I never said that) but some people push the river to the point of no return,If they die they die, they are at fault.

Should our military try to rescue idiots and risk their own lives?I think not.JMO

Bud,

I'll echo what Bill said, and rebutt what TrainTrac said as well. Yes, there is media bias, but the biggest bias IMHO doesn't come from the news outlets, or the mainstream media, but in the fringe viewers that receive the news. These viewers take the news in, as reported, through their filters and that's the big difference. It's not whether you get your news from Fox, or from CBS, but the mind and the attitudes from which you filter it. These viewers always take in the actions and words of politicians, and our president (for example) and these fringe view the actions in the very worst of light.

There are folks at the poles, the fringe, the zealots that are essentially IDENTICAL, in one respect, and that is the absolute distrust and abhoration of the other side. It is NOT right!

Essentially many in this country have become a bunch of "haters", those that seem to only be able to villify those that they disagree with. These people are narrow-minded, insecure, and very small in their thinking. This "ship", which is the United States would be better off without them. They need to shape up or ship out. Am I villifying them? Nope. No more than I villify a small child who steals, or lies. They know no better. They need to be enlightened.

The problem as I see it is the fringe...the nuts on the edge, and they are getting greater in numbers, unfortunately.

We have become a country filled with Eeyores.

I'm not happy when anyone dies nor do I think that anyone really "deserves" to die but they directly went against the warnings and directions of the military (that were protecting them) and dozens of other boaters that were safely in protective confines of the with the Naval ships.

That being said, yes I do think they put their lives and the lives of the military officers that tried to go rescue them in danger. Thus resulting in their deaths, sorry but how is that really any different then someone watching out into traffic (on purpose, wether it be against a crosswalk sign or not), getting killed and then their family wants the driver of car held responsible for hitting the idiot that put themselves in that situation.

I'm just saying if you do stupid stuff, especially that situation, you deserve the consequenses. I bet the "victims" family are gonna sue the gov't for not keeping them safe or some B.S. lawsuit will come from this.
