I know of three free ways to get your taxes submitted electronically.

One is at www.taxfreedom.com I have used this for 5 years, and it allows people with low Adjusted Gross Income to file at no cost. There are also several States which have entered into agreements to allow their citizens to file at no cost.

A site for military personnel is available at http://militaryonesource.com/. I am using this one this year, and it is connected to the taxfreedom.com website. My previous years' returns are stored at either location, since they both lead to TurboTax online.

There are also several companies which offer free e-filing through the www.irs.gov website.

E-filing is a great way to go, since errors are corrected on the spot prior to submitting a return, and refunds usually can be direct deposited into your bank account within 14 days.

Many Happy (Tax) Returns!! :D

I just read an article and your adjusted gross income has to be less than $50k, to get free E-File...

Started to do that last year but chickened out due to concerns of safty of my information.

Anyone know for sure how safe it is to use these on-line services?

My taxes are simple now that I am retied and the ten-dollar H&R Block TaxCut worked last tow yers for me. And private too.

I've used taxact.com for several years now, with no issues.

And they've just changed to where anyone can e-file their federal return there for free. If you live in a state with state income tax, they charge to e-file that--although I believe you have the option of preparing it on that site, printing it out, and mailing it for free. (Or at least free from taxact.com--you still need to pay postage... :) )
