Front Transaxle Leaking

I noticed some major puddles under my Trac this morning and it appears to be leaking from the front differential box.



Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes,

Mine was the seal. $10.00 for the seal and $50.00 for labor.

Yes, mine did the same. Ford fixed it under warranty. They said it was the Pinion gasket.

$400 for me, entire front differential needed to be re-sealed, all the grease seals were shot.

$400.00 for seals? You are aware all three seals cost less the $20.00?

No, I was not aware.



The guys words were "all the seals are shot and the entire thing needs to be re-sealed".

Considering that it was at the dealership, out of warranty, i figured it would be pricey.



Of course they were taking apart half of my front end and replacing a cv boot as well. Maybe that had something to do with it.

I admit, I don't know much about the CV boots, but I know my brother had the front seals replaced in under an hour. Pulled the front axles in no time at all. 1 seal was leaking, but he changed them all just to be on the safe side. His Explorer has 140,000 miles on it.

I had to have two seals replaced at different times in the Ranger I had before (same front end).
