So 4 different auto parts stores did not list the correct fuel filter for my truck. They all had the "slim" filter while mine is the "fat" filter. Thanks Tabjo for your project write up that lists the correct part # for the various manufacturers. Now tonight I have to go find a store that has the correct one and then tomorrow go back to autozone to return the incorrect one I purchased initially. Does anyone recommend any specific brand or are they all pretty much the same?

It's not over...just locating the correct one, then you gotta get the old one off! The plastic fuel line removal tool I bought doesn't work very well, make sure you get a good one.

Fortunately I've got a couple of buddies at a local shop that practically keep a lift open for me to come do work on the truck. In my impatience I told them not to worry about getting the filter, I'd get it myself and ended up costing more time and energy then it should have!

wow it took me like 5 min. to do it. I ordered my fuel filter the fatty, from auto-tech supplies for $13.34 our price.

I used one of these:

I went to car parts, 2 different autozone's and a pep boys. They all gave me the wrong part and none of them could find the right one

yea, the 1st time i ordered mine for NAPA they brought me a slim one with only 1 outlet on each side, ordered 2nd time, same thing. so i ordered from auto-tech and they sent me the right one, one outlet on one side and 2 on the other.

I bought the purolator filter from Advanced Auto Parts for $14. I also reccomend these tools, they are pricier, about $9-$11 each, but well worth it. Much easier disconnect in my case. Good luck!

I have to go back to Autozone today to return the one I bought that was wrong. I stopped at Car Parts last night and they didn't stock it so they told me it would be 48 hours. I'm gonna cross my fingers that Autozone has the right one in stock today.

Okay just got back from running between Autozone, the Ford dealer, and Pep boys. Ford wanted $33 for the filter, pep boys $25 and autozone didn't have it. And pep boys had the tool... for $9!

So I took the fuel filter and the "tool" to the shop yesterday and we couldn't get the old filter off. The tool was to thick to fit in the end of the line all the way to disconnect the line and they had these plastic inserts that wouldn't go in all the way either. Mac tools is stopping by with one this morning so I'll be back this afternoon. On a good note, I did get to install my additional backup lights while it was up on the lift!
