About at my wit's end here. This is day two of trying to replace this filter, and the issue is the same as before.

I can get the From Tank side of the fuel line off just fine, but I'm stuck on getting the To Engine side off.

I've sprayed WD-40, pushed and pulled, tried leveraging and still seem to get about this far:

There's not much play if pushing the filter into the line. Is it possible the clamp mechanism is damaged?

Chris, wedge a lever between the filter and fuel line tool and compress it till it bottoms out.

If you twist the filter slightly, it should release. Found this job is more finesse, not force. GL

Looks like the Lisle "scissor" type tool, not my favorite.

Gentlemen,

All I have been able to find are the scissor types here :banghead:

Hehehe I pray some lady and her kids don't come walking by the garage. Sailors got nothin' on this Army guy and his mouth.

I have some 2ft rebar laying around, will see if that can suffice as a lever.

Flat end of a tire iron works well. The key is to compress those "finger" springs in the fuel line.

just make sure that you are not pulling against the fitting tool! the tool will slide out with the filter.

I made the mistake to pull apart between the tool and filter, and doing it that way you will be fighting yourself.

SFC,

I have the red one, just didnt take a picture of it. Funny thing is I can't get it to fully close around the tube and still insert into the retainer, but I can use one of the sides and insert it fairly nicely.

Chris, sounds like yours is 3/8 (Gold), not 5/16 (Red). Don't know how you got the other side off. Clip is a circle BTW.

I got the plastic collar looking tool from a buddy/neighbor who works for Ford. Just close it around the filter stem and push it in. Pops right off. Good luck. Bob

Whew. Went and bought the 3/8 gold tool. Wiggled around a few times and...

Thanks guys. So its a circle with 3 prongs. I wrapped the ends with electrical tape to protect from the elements.

Now, how to clear the check engine light from letting it stall?

 Gotta love perserverance! Surprised if it through a CEL at all.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal for 30 minutes and reconnect.

Don't forget to reset your clock and tuner presets. LOL
