When I first click the key to the on position on a 2001 ford sport trac. I can barely hear the fuel pump hum, its very quiet. I also own a 2000 Mountaineer and a 1990 ford tempo and you can't miss hearing the fuel pump pressuring hum. Just curious if they the fuel pump is quieter in the new vehicles or I'm looking at a fuel pump problem. I guessing my next step is getting a fuel pressure test done if this is not suppose to be very quiet noise. I have a rough idle problem on very cold starts below 37 degress F.

I don't even hear the fuel pump on my 2002 Trac.

How many miles are on your Trac? Have you changed the plugs and wires yet?

The fuel ump on the Trac is quiet. Check previous posts on rough idle and cleaning of the IAC or vacuum hose leak. Good luck...MikeC

My '04 Trac has the quietest fuel pump of any car I ever had...I never even hear it prime up when I turn the key on to the run position...

My trac has 87,000.

I replace the following.

Fuel Filter

Idle Air Control Valve

MAF

plug wires

spark plugs

Did a motor vac.

Coolant flush

Thermostat

My next step is probably looking at the EGR valve.
