I've heard good things about them. We owned a few of the retail brands (Hoover, Eureka) before finally splurging on an Oreck XL21. It's the best vacuum cleaner I've ever seen. It has a 21 year warranty as long as you take it in once a year for a "tune-up".

We've had a Dyson Animal for about a year. Really amazing and worth every penny...disgusting what is in the carpet when it looks clean.

The thing we liked about the Oreck is it's small size and weight (eight pounds). Makes it easy to store and easy for my wife to take up and down the stairs in our house. Also, it's very powerful for it's diminutive size.

We actaully have a Rainbow which is not sold in stores, but was the subject of a "Everybody Loves Raymond" episode where Raymond buys a vacuum from a door-to-door saleslady sent over by his mother.

We bought the vacuum about 5 years ago at a home show and it is truly the first one I have used that does not lose suction. There are also no bags or filters required because it uses water to filter the air and you just dump the water out after you are done.

We got one at Christmas time, the animal also with all the attachments... IT works great !!!

We have had the Dyson Animal for over a year now. It works so good. We even used it to unclog our Hoover that got clogged with dog hair. It really does a great job at getting up all the dog hair.

(My cousin bought one for his wife for xmas.)

yikes.........and I once bought a set of tires for my EX-wife for her b-day ! I have since found that jewelry is the answer.....now, what was the question?

things we've learned the last few days here:

Dyson animal is great

RL is really really REALLY ugly

Sears\Kmart doesn't train their staff well enough to determine if rust is in fact a reason to exchange a tool!:p

Dyson's do break, and I've seen a bunch. I work the Best Buy in the services department. They are not bulletproof. I'm sure like most things if you actually treat them right they will last forever, but they are not invisible I promise you that.
