What types of gear oils are safe to use on the sport trac's eg. Transfer case, rear end.

and is royal purple good for the sport trac's?

The Gen1 Sport Trac uses trans fluid in transfer case. I used Valvoline Mercon V when I did mine. I used Royal Purple in the diffs, I believe it was 74-140 weight.

Other than the oxidation filter patch procedure, performance testing was conducted by an independent laboratory

Convinced me. Amsoil Severe Gear FTW!

You can see all fluids specified by Ford by using AMSOIL's MyGarage, a free online tool. Quantities are shown, as well as filters, spark plugs and wiper blades. "Park" your Trac there (as well as any other vehicles) and you can design your own maintenance program. See link below.

Royal Purple is fine. The t-case takes Mercon ATF, not Mercon V, although some fluids are rated for both like Mobil 1, which is what I use.

The only way to do the front diff is to take it to the qwicky-lube where they use a suction machine. I go to Valvoline, costs $49.95. Gen 2's have a drain plug on the rear diff, so it is easy to do yourself.
