Doesn't Ford only own a portion of Volvo?

Does this mean Ford is taking essentially a bailout from China?

Geely, don't they make scooters too.

I heard on the news today China will surpass the US in new car sales.

19 million to 12 million...

China does have, what, 700+ million more people than we do? Them buying more cars isn't very surprising.

It's not a bailout from China, Ford is actually exchanging a good for money, instead of getting free money from on High, erm, DC.

Considering that Volvo wasn't exactly the Golden Goose for Ford, this might actually hurt the buyer, at least in the short term, which allows Ford to continue gaining an edge over the competition.

What is sad is that China has enough money to give out billions like candy in order to get these companies, and their technology. China doesn't invent anything, it seems, they either buy the technology or have it given to them. Hopefully other carmakers who are known for this idea called innovation will keep ahead of an imitator...a very very rich imitator.

Its a pretty good deal for Ford. The bought Volvo eleven years ago for $6.45 billion, and now they are selling Volvo for $1.8 billion. With saavy investment decisions like this one, Ford will be a world leader in no time at all!
