Did any members remove the running boards on the trac? I'm curious to how it looks. Mine are rusting pretty bad. Any opinions? Or should I leave them on?

Big Al

Hey Big Al, Many have removed them, and personally I like the look without them too... As for me, The Wife has told me either I have to leave one side on for her to get in, (She's 5' even) or she wont ride with me.. Well, since it would look kinda funny with just one on there, I left them on.

Mine are starting to rust a bit, so I took em off, but they're just so endlessly convenient for me that I ended up having to put them back on.

(and I also got complaints from the height-challenged )

It does give the ST a more impressive, higher, "rugged" stance, but you can also then see more of the unsightly frame. Looks aren't worth the loss of functionality for my uses with the ST, but if you don't need 'em, it looks cool.

I took mine off after the body lift. Even with the body lift the frame isn't TOO visible, though it definitely is more so with them off in my case.

I took mine off and like the way it looks much better. At my height (5'9") the step wasn't convenient so I didn't use them anyway. The only drawback I noticed was not having them to knock snow off my shoes when getting in during the winter. I bought nice rubber floor mats to make up for it. :driving:

Back in the day was the way to do it !!!

I purposely got my old Trac without them because I had them on my Ranger and all they were good for was getting my pants dirty in the winter.

I like it without the boards. Thanks for all the pics. Does anyone remember what size the nut used on the frame?

Oh man, I went through this problem too. lol I have to dress up for work and getting out of the truck in the winter I'd always end up with road salt or slush all over the back of my pants.

I ended up taking the roof racks off after a while too.

sorry for crapping up the thread with a HUGE pic

I took mine off due to advanced rusting. I don't even miss them. Come to think of it, I now think they were a pain in the ass and hindered easy access. The only two people that are missing them are my mom and a short friend of mine, but they seem to manage just fine.

Took mine off too. Like everyone else said, they just get the back of your pants dirty. They also had a tendency to cake up several pounds of mud anytime I was off road. Their most useful aspect was keeping rocks from kicking up the sides from the front tires. Even with a body lift, its not that much of a hassle to "climb" in.

I still have mine sitting in the basement garage if anyone is interested. No rust at all, like new. Not sure what they're worth. I just never have tried selling them because of the assumed hassle it would be to ship them.
