Not sure how much you want to spend, but I can recommend Tom Tom. If you like gadgets, it has quite a few features. They have european maps availible, the newer models recieve updates from tom tom owners, you can have celeberity voices for the guidence, and google maps just added the ability to send locations directly to a tom tom device.

Garmin Nuvis are nice. I have the 200 model, with East European maps. My biggest complaint is the maps sometimes want to send me the wrong way down one-way streets, so be careful with that. Another complaint is that the map doesn't include neighboring Germany. I have to get an entire new map to drive west out of Poland. Of course, this drawback won't apply to you, since you are in North America.
