GPS System updates...

I recieved a Roadmate 760 for Christmas, and so far I enjoy it. I have not used any cds yet as I have been at my wifes family for Christmas the past few days. I have noticed that gas stations that have been put up in the last 2-3 years, and other building such as a big wal-mart and Walgreens have not come up as I have done a search through my system. I am a little worried I am going to have to buy the latest update... Does anyone know anything about this? I have two cds that came with the unit, one of them is a place of interest cd and the other is a Documentation cd... I think... Does anything know if I will be charged for my first update out of the box? If so that is messed up! the only update that says I need on the website is one for Europe and I dont need that living in Kansas, and the update cost $250. Does anyone know the standard price for a North American update if thats how I have to go? Thanks for all your help...

You should have the one and only American map. Not all businesses are on there for sure (impossible) but there are enough so that you should get where your going without too much of a hassle. I have had mine for 2 years and it is awesome. My daughter moved to Boston and you would think I lived there all my life the way it takes me around town. But to think that EVERY business will show up is far reaching. Updates cost about $100. Had a 700 actually, updated it to a 760 with new maps. Give it a run, you won't be disappointed.

Well the thing is, there are a lot of businesses that are not on this gps system and that is what is frustrating... I just think with all the technology we have, at least a wal mart that has been here for 4-5 years should be on the gps system...

Call the manufacturer, you should be allowed one free upgrade. Thats what Garmin does anyway. Hope it goes well.

I have a Magellan Color, that I can put in other vehicles or hand held. The bad thing is that it is about a 3 or 4" screen, the good thing is that I can add business's or whatever to it. What they need for the dash mounted is a way to add these when you are traveling. They could also use like a SD, Compact Flash or other type card in the dash mounted GPS. That way you could update using your computer. That is what my Magallan has.

I can do the same to my system, and it has a place for a flash card. I can add places until I do not want to add anymore, but what good is that going to do me when I need to find a walmart in a town that I am not used to? I just expected more right out of the box... I still need to call them and see if I can get a free update
