I remember awhile back some of us older guys were talking about the AMC Gremlin. I found some slides of mine. Thought I would share. You are welcome to laugh.

This was a '73 Gremlin X. 304 ci V8 Motor with automatic, 3;26 gears. I installed long tube headers, dualed the exhaust with 2 glass pack muflers on each bank(no racket was the purpose), 500cfm holley carb, Accell ignition. I never tracked it. I did street race another guy that was turning 14.2 in the 1/4. He had no ac or power steering. I could beat him 3 to 4 car links in the 1/4 on the street. I had a guy check my top end at 145mph with his 'vete. It was probably the gooffiest sleeper I ever owned. The pics arent good, they are from some old slides.

Nice car.....I always liked AM Gremlins...esp the Gremlin X's. They were funky looking but I liked the profile. Haven't seen one on the street in years!

I went to my son's Boy Scout leaders house to help make arrows once and he had a red, white & blue breadbox looking car with a big hood scoop in his garage, I said "WOW. an SC Scrambler Rambler" and he was suprised I knew what it was. Little did he know, I was just a year or two younger than him. His car was a National show winner in the Rambler Club.

Thanks for sharing the pictures Eddie!

I still have my 1977 Gremlin stored at the farm. It has the 258 cu in 6 cylinder and a four speed manual shift. Its orange with a white stripe. Its basically a 2 seater but does have a rear seat. Only a child could sit in there. I bought it used in 1979, holy crap that's 30 years ago. I take my grandsons to seat it periodically hoping one of them will fall in love with it on sight.

I think AMC had some very interesting cars. Quite a few show up at the monthly car shows here. The Javelin is a popular restoration car and very quick for its time. We even had AMC Matadors as police units.

Am I dating myself? :D

John Z, your right about hard to kill. I ran the crap out of it. Blew the trans under warranty. The mehanic said, he saw defect in the planetary gear assy. It was going to happen anyway.

I bought when I came back from 'Nam. Spent my last few month in the Army in FT. Bliss, El paso, tx. I made my trip home when I got out. 753 miles in 10 1/2 hours. In 1973, I-10 was WOT most of the way. DPS clocked me 123mph west of San Antonio. Told him I was happy to go home after 3 years Army. He verbaly warned me. Thanked me for my service. Told me to get to the other side of San Antonio, that was as far as he went. Then said if you pedal to the metal after that, I wont be his problem...

I had a 1976 Gremlin X I wish I still had that car. it was the only non-Ford that I have ever owned.

I gotta dig up some pics of that car.

have a good one

eddie,

no laughter here. that is AWESOME

i bet you wish you still had it. now you got me looking on e-bay for one

low 14's is great for a car of that era. though no way near tom's imaginary escort

when was the last time you saw one on the road?

again really cool

Yes, Gary you are correct. You "no" everything. I am sure you "no" that the Escort that was going to get the engine was totaled when a tree fell on it. You also "no" that the replacment Escort has over 350,000 miles on it. I am sure you also "no" that it will take a while for me to tear apart the totaled Escort, get rid of the body, and put the parts on the replacement Escort. Then I am sure you also "no" I will need to have plenty of money available for a aftermarket computer, clutch, etc to get the turbo engine running. I am also sure you "new" all of that.

If only you would have known all of this instead of "noing" all of this.

Tom

It's "KNOW", "KNEW" and "KNOWING". Not "no", "new" and "noing".

Not trying to be grammatically correct or an English expert, it just LOOKS better spelled correctly.

Think YOU and GARY S. need to "chill" a little. We're talking cars here, that's all. :(

Although it doesn't show in the posting, I'm fairly sure both gary & Cayman posts were dripping with sarcasm.

The "no", "new" thing is just an added bonus to said sarcasm.

Just like Tom's "free lunch" references.

Guess you had to be there!

Ease up man...

It's "KNOW", "KNEW" and "KNOWING". Not "no", "new" and "noing".

There is a reason I put the quotes around those words. I know the proper spelling and aplication of those words.

Tom

Nice Eddie. Very nice...

Gremlin, Pinto, Vega and maybe Pacer...

Gremlin & Vega were the tops!

Last weekend, I seen a Pinto running at the drag strip. It was nowhere as fast as the Vette Gary drives, ut it could hold its own. It would turn the 1/4 mile at only 9 seconds.

I am sure that Vette of his would turn 2's.

Tom

p.s. I know drag racing. No need to correct me about 9 seconds being fast and 2 seconds being impossible. In Gary's case, he "no's" his car is fast.

Everyone nos gary's vette is the fastest auto among all trailer parks...

Coolest is watching a Pinto & a Vega drag. Course, most Pinto's I've seen run a GM engine!

That Pinto was Ford powered. Blown alcohol burner.

Dave, I better back of. You mess with Gary, you mess with the whole (or is "hole") trailer Park.

Tom

My first car was a 1970 AMC Gremlin 6 cyl., lime green. I installed duel headers that I actually bought from the parts dept. I installed a capacitor discharge ignition and a Filtron ail impregnated foam air filter on it. I put on Crager SS mag wheel all around. I actually recorded 30 mpg hwy.

I found this  link for the Gremlin fans here.
