I installed a Sportster Sirius Radio toady that came with a Mobile Kit.

I ran all the wires in hidden locations and what not.

However, it came with a cigarette lighter type power supply. I would rather hard wire it.

The catch.... this model has an internal voltage input of 4.9 to 5.6 volts. The part that plugs into the light must have a reducer in it. I could wire a hidden female plug for the lighter, but I would like to run it to the fuse box to a fused link.

My question is, does Sirius or another supply have a hardwire system that has a voltage reducer as part of the line???

Thanks...

It seems the answer is no...

The older radios were 12v, but.... the newer radio are 4.9 to 5.6 volts.

Sirius says they do NOT make a hardwire for the radio.

I will wire in a female jack in a hidden location and be done...

Yea, you're welcome!! :D

Do make sure you run a hardwire from the output into the radio's antenna input. The splitter for this is available at Circuit City and is not expensive.

There is a kit that includes a voltage reducer to hard wire your unit. It also includes a direct connect antenna adadptor for much better reception. The part number is SIRPVK1 and will work with all the new plug and play radios. It make for a very clean installation.

Zeke, thanks for the info, I will look into it.

Presently, I have the external antenna fro the FM transmitter type connection. I ran it all the way back to the power antenna and ran it vertically less than a foot from the factory antenna.

Right now, it is working perfectly.

Or you could buy a replacement cigarette lighter and wire it into you current lighter but leave it behind the stereo and plug you sportster into that. Part is like $5 at wally world. I would agree on wiring the antenna directly to the radio. Costs about $20-30 at best buy or circuit city. Much better reception with ZERO STATIC

Good luck

That is what I said in my second post:

I will wire in a female jack in a hidden location and be done...

However, they do make a hardwire kit, so I will be going that route as it will be a more clean professional install...

Thanks though...
