I've been playing around with it. I found the homes of all of my family members. I showed my daughter the hospital where she was born, and where her first home was. I also found the following famous places: The Eiffel Tower, The Great Wall, The Sydney Opera House, and the entrance to Cheyenne Mountain/NORAD. I cannot believe the quality of these images taken from Space, and available to the general public at no cost..

I have used it and i agree that the quality is good. A co-worker of mine noticed it about a month ago. We liked it enough that we actually purchased the Google Earth Pro for our office to use so we could record movies for presentations.

Yes, the quality is incredible! Check out the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor. You can see the oil slick from the fuel still leaking from the ship.

And when looking at NYC, you really get a good shot of Ground Zero. It really shows you just how big the area of devastation was. Also, if you look at Liberty Island, you can see a sunken ship in the water right near the island.

It is somewhat scary though that such good photos of military bases can now be obtained by just about anyone.

Nope. I just zoomed in on the White House to about 300 feet. The pictures on Google Earth aren't real time, though. But I'm not sure how old they are.

Yep, the White House is 'fuzzed'. The image of my house doesn't show my house. The picture must be a couple years old. Also, I don't use it at work anymore, the IT Grand Pubah spanked me for using up his bandwidth.

Edit: I thought the WH was blurred, maybe I just had sneezed on my monitor!

Fuzzed? I could zoom in to about 300 feet before the resolution started to get fuzzy. I'd say that's pretty good, because that's about as close as you can get and still have decent resolution using this software to look at just about any location. That's pretty close. Pretty useful for aerial reconnaissance.

GE blocks the TOPS of all the gov't buildings in DC, blocking anything that may or may not be there (get creative with those conspiracies now...)

I love GE. The details of where I used to live in California are stunning.... you can see the damage from the fires that took out my old neighbors houses.

The details of my parents home is Illinois is enough to see my dad out mowing the grass....

THe details of where I live.... It's still a cotton field. Picture is at least 3 years old.

I love the detail that we can get.... being able to see waves on lakes and such. For fun, zoom in on the St Louis airport.... there is HALF A PLANE on the tarmac. There are discussion groups based solely on GE that have all kinds of pointers and files available to down load and look at.

Some of the one's I've downloaded include:

-Where the Titanic sank (can't see it, duh)

-St Peter's Basillica

-3D models of St Louis (including the Arch)

-3D models of the Golden Gate Brige and Alcatraz

-Pointers for Crazy Horse Memorial and Mount Rushmore

-Military objects of interest

-USS Constitution

-USS Boston

-USN Shipyards in California, Boston and elsewhere

-3D Models of Chicago

And the list goes on.

I get a kick out of the areas that go from green (spring/summer) to brown (fall) and white (winter) in the equivalent of a mile or so...

If you have a GPS device with computer connection, you can upgrade to the next level of the program and actually track your movements on the terrain.

Really cool program. Since you can pinpoint the towns you live in, I thought about posting my pinpoint....

Such a perfectly good symbol, the swastika; that, and that little narrow mustache, all shot to hell by Hitler...that look is never coming back!

Check out this site: http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/categories.php/Cat/0 it has tons of placemarks that you can go and look at, also if you check the Keyhole Community BBS box then a bunch of placemarks will show up. There are some areas that are blocked out, the National Observatory and the Vice Presidents house for instance, these usually go away with updates.
