Florida is a much larger state than most realize. It takes about 6 hours just to drive across the panhandle. If you are driving from the border to the Keys or Miami, that is easily a days drive or more. Connecticut is a long way from Florida as well. I figure he he at least two long days of driving each way. For a week-long trip, I think I'd fly, since the return is only three days at the destination for four days driving.

1100 miles in one day is a little insane. When I was in my 20's I drove non-stop from Colorado Springs to Lexington, Ky for a funeral alone. It took 24-hours and I don't even remember driving through Louisville. I arrived 30 minutes before the services. I was a stupid kid back then though, so now I limit myself to between 8 - 10 hours per day driving, though I did get caught in an ice storm a few years back which stretched my trip from OKC to Ft Walton Beach to 20 hours. I would have stopped, but I had to be at work the next day. I rolled into town at 0330 and had to be at PT 3 hrs later at 0630. That was a rough morning.

Auto Train. 'Nuff said.

I take it all the time. Once with my Ranger and the jetski in tow. Shaves almost 1000 miles off your trip. Great food too. I love it.

P.S. They charge more for SUV's than cars. I recommend spending the extra money for a sleeper.

My wife and I fly nearly 800,000 miles, yes, 800,000 miles a year, between both of our jobs, so when it comes time for a trip, we are MORE than happy to hop in the car, ST, RV, whatever and spend a few or 20 hours driving from Miami to Upstate, NY to visit relatives. Non-stop, all day, all-nighter, fun filled road trip, you can have the airport, train stations, and bus terminals. After all that time in planes, we don't even want to LOOK at a plane. Happy driving !!!!!

Hey b. did you use the sport trac for the drive. if so how much did you spend on gas. I'm thinking of taking mine to Kissimmee, Fl. Just wondering if it was gonna cost more than flying 2 people.

ive driven from NH to Florida many times, one time in the sport trac you have to fill up 5 times each way $45 each fill up $225 each way. about the same as flying. but if you look at it like this: while in florida i have a car to get around and if you look at the price of renting a car and gas for that then its cheaper to drive. me and my friends left NH at about 11 AM on friday and we were checking into out hotel accross teh street from universal studios in orlando at about 1 PM Saturday. thats straight through none stop except for gas and to eat in resturants at dinner and breakfast. really not to bad. some of the best times happen on the road. great fun.

yeah being on the road is nice when you have good company. The sceneary and going thru different states is cool. I will end up doing it. just got to do a major tune up and belt. and maybe bring an extra spare.

jsundown,

Christmas '05 I drove from Sussex county NJ to Albany GA. 19 hours down, 17 hours back in the trac, cost was ~$450 round trip. Left Christmas night in a snow/sleet rain/fog storm and couldn't go over 45 for the first 5 hours of the trip. Ran out of gas in W. Virginia taking the first exit with an open gas station that we had seen in over an hour. I also do a road trip to the Outer banks each summer in the ST. As long as you stay away from DC during the day it's not a bad drive, especially with satelite radio and an Ipod

Hi gang, using my sister-in-laws computer. We are Apopka, just outside Orlando. I see there is a meet somewhere down here on Friday. I'm sure we can't make it, but it would be nice if we could. Back to the pool!

Jsun, sorry for the late response, I was workin'.......again. Yes the ST has been back and forth.....hmmm I think 3 times total. I find it does excellent, on the highway, I-95 most of the way, ave. speed 60-65. I do drive all night long, timing the bigger cities, so I don't have to go around them, just truck right through. The last time we drove I think we spent in the neighborhood of 2-300 bucks total, that includes oil changes, when back home. You will definately save $$$ by driving, however, driving straight through, isn't the easiest. I am used to keeping nutty hours, and run on 0-4 hours sleep a night. Oh also, when going, the track just has us and luggage, when coming home the woman LOADS as much crap as she can in the bed and backseats......Shopper.... Once we had a 10ft fake xmas tree, that she got the BEST deal on, I wrapped it in plastic, and since the bed was packed I strapped it on the tonneau, looked like two chicken drumsticks on there... Gotta love it, can't carry them on the plane!!!! Happy driving, but keep flying because it pays for my toys ! !

I drove from PA to OK in '98, just over 1500 miles one way. Drove straight back in 25 hours....that's pushing it. Stopped only for gas and meals. My bro drove for a total of maybe 4 of those hours. I don't recommend anyone driving through much more than 800 miles a day (13 hours), it's just too long and fatigue kills.

I just got back to Philly this morning from Lady Lakes about an hour north of Orlando . . . Took about 17 hours. What is up with closing 95 near Washington? The detour was not marked very well. That added 30 minutes to the trip . . . We had Great weather for two weeks. Man I had to have seen 40 sport tracs in the two weeks we were down there.

I just got back from Southern CA and I lost track of how many ST's I saw there, a large majority of them were white it seems. Maybe because of the heat factor. I have also seen 3 here in the past few days with out of state plates on them. One with RI, one with PA and not sure of the other one. I'm gonna have to get some more cards made up for carding although so far I have carded 5 or 6 or so and I dont believe anyone has come on here.
