I'm trying to ran an electrical wire from my basement up in to my kitchen.

Now.. can i ran the wire through one of the studs hole that as existing wiring running through it , or only one wire should routed through the same hole on the stud when running it horizontally

Thanks star:unsure:

it depends on how big the hole is and what size wire you want to run. Also what size wire is already there. DO NOT run low voltage (ie; cable tv or phone wires) with power 120/240. If you can pass the new wire thru the hole with ease then you will be okay. If you have to foece it then you should drill new hole. hope this helps. Have fun, but be careful! I'm an electrician and I've seen some very scary stuff out there!

You can run multiple wires through a stud hole if the hole is large enough to accommodate the additional wire without forcing it. I'm with mike about seeing some very scary stuff that some people do. Make sure that the wire size you use is adequate for the circuit breaker that supplies it. With a 15 amp breaker use a minimum of 14 awg wire. With a 20 amp breaker use a minimum of 12 awg. I prefer using 12 awg wire even in a 15 amp circuit.

What Mike said. As long as it's not a low voltage and it has space so you don't have to force it, it shouldl be ok. I, too, have seen some scary things inside of walls(in my own house  ) from peole forcing more wire througha n opening than should be possible.

I'm using 12-2 Romex and if it can fit it i'll ...if not i'll just drill a new hole

Thanks again guys:)

12-2 with ground???? Make sure it has a copper ground.

When you pull it through, pull it slowly so it does not "burn" the existing wire by friction. The existing wire can get damaged by pulling the new one too fast. Gary D. in CT
