JohnnyO,

Yes. very true. Many different parts of the country require different blends of gasoline, but they still cannot exceed 10% alcohol.

It has gotten so bad that not only do states require different gas blends in the summer and winter, but even some counties and cities have special gas blending requirements. I understand that there are well over 200 different manditory gas formulas across the US that very by season, state, county, and city. Also, some juristictions will allow for alternative blends if there is an emergency shortage of a particular formula of gas...but that does not come up that often.

It might be apples and oranges, but the owner's manual for my jetski says to use 87 octane unless you have oxygenated fuel in which case you should run 89 octane.

I buy gas from the only No-Ethanol station in my area. They only have 87 octane but that's fine by me. All I'd put it the ST anyway. Their pumps are old, mechanical-numbers-old. Definitely no "pay at the pump". Their prices are a little higher but still not any more than BP or Shell. Just more than "Flash Foods" and Kroger, which I have tried in weak moments but have since sworn off. It's worth the extra $2.00 a month (one fillup per month) to hear and feel my engine running smooth.

My gas mileage has certainly improved... and by a substantial amount. I think I am more than making up for the extra $2.00 and I'd even say that I'm probably actually saving more like $10-$20 a month because of the fuel savings. Fuel money aside, I think I'm saving more by preventing unnecessary wear on the engine.

Hugh,

I wish I could find a similar gas station near me....I would be curious just to see how much better mileage I can get with Ethanol free gas.

Closest non-ethanol station to me is about 70 miles away. Buddy of mine has a weekend camp up there and told me about it.

Website with non-ethanol stations by state:

JohnnyO,

Thanks for the link to non-ethanol gas stations.

Unfortunately, as I suspected, there are none near me...The closest non-ethanol gas is 127 miles away in Brownwood, TX.

But it did point out a few places that I occassionally pass through in my travels and I might just stop and get a tankfull, just to see what kind of mileage I can get with it.
