I am wanting to purchase some new rims and tires. I like 20"s but I want to be able to take it off-road (nothing too too extreme) but im worried that a 20" rim will get damaged. My question is: What qualities in a rim and tire should i look for if i do 99% driving on the highway but LOVE to take it off-the-road whenever i get the chance? Also, If i get a 20" rim do i HAVE to raise my truck and if so, by how much and what would i need to do to do that i.e. new shocks etc..? Thanks

Welcome to the forum Greekster, can't really help you out on this, I'm stock. I don't think 20" is what you are looking for though if you plan on doing any offroading. Hit the search button up top and carefullly select some optioins and I'm sure you will find all the info you need. Better to hold off and get what you really want.

Good luck, let us know how you make out.

I wouldn't go any bigger than 18" if you're off-roading. Whack it hard and there's not as much cushion and you trash an expensive dub. Clearance-wise, it's not the rim size as much as it is the overall diameter of the tire.

I'd stop at 17".

For off-road, the "rule of thumb" is rim diameter no larger than 50% of tire diameter. I went a bit larger with the rim - 17" rim with 265/65-17 (30.56"), as I wanted a lower profile tire and didn't want to raise the car much. This setup works well.
