Regarding a 2007 4.0 V6: What is the "wisdom of the list" on the real value of replacing the OEM ignition coil with a high voltage version? Does it really, honestly add mpg or power or is it just fun to do?

I really don't see any reason to do that with a stock engine the original coil has plenty of reserve voltage for a stock engine now if its supercharged or turbo fine but a stock engine no need

Consensus shows the stock 4.0L coil is more than adequate and proven reliable. Only aftermarket HP coil options are Accel and Screamin' Demon with mixed results.

IMO, Fords coil is plenty hot. The one thing I would do. Is change the oem filiment plug wires. I use spiral core wires. No particler brand. Just good silcone jacket and good boots. Make sure they are spiral core internal.

They have much less resistance per foot. Which allows for a hotter spark.

If they still have them. The best price I found yrs back, was. Pep-Boys had some wagner spiral core. They werent colorful or fancy. Basic oem gray and the same mm silicone jacket as stock.

Had about 80k on them when I sold the car. No problems. I will look for them, when I change my trac plugs.

I just put the Accel coil in my 2008 V6 last week and it made a noticeable difference. It almost runs like it did when it was new. I made a 220 mile road trip over the weekend and got 2 mpg better than the last several trips. It was well worth the price (<$100) and the 20 minutes it took to swap out the coil. I'm going to change out the wires and plugs soon and hope I'll notice a difference there too! 84k miles.
