Just bought a used pop up camper, it weight 2500lb so do not need a hitch as per owners mannel. I've only towed a little 4x8 trailor before. Would it help or be better to install a beffy hitch if not needed? Also got a 7 pin trailor plug to install. Looking at the 4 pin it came with there are two wire that hang there. one looks to read ground. Are (02)sport trac wired for trailor brakes? Does the blue wire for brakes need to hooked up ? Thanks

02's are not wired for trailer brakes. 07+ are but only if it has the Class III hitch.

I bought a new Class III Hidden Hitch for my old 05 for $135. Well worth the money. Much more secure, plus the bumper ball can be kind of high to properly tow some trailers.

the bumper hitch often is too high to to a trailer level anyways.. '02's are not wired, you'll have to wire it. the flat-4 plug out back will get you lights, if you run brakes you will need to add a controller and cable from the engine rearward. for +12v to you trailer, you ccan tap inot the bed 12v receptacle...

I would definately get a receiver hitch......a lot more stable and it will level the tow trailer. See my library for trailer brake wiring instructions if needed. If the trailer only weighs 2500 it's optional but I would add the trailer brake connection if you can.
