I'm looking to build a hoist for our new car top carrier for storing it in the garage. I'm not sure if I'm over thinking or what, but does anyone have any ideas on how else I could do this?

[Broken External Image]:

Hard to draw whats in my head even.. 4 big circles are pulleys. The X is just an anchor. So the X and the 4 pulleys are attached to the ceiling. The pulley on the far right of the picture is on the ceiling right next to the wall which then runs down to a tie off cleat (weird backwards C thing)

The slashes could be like a wooden dowel with eye bolts on the end or something similar so that my carrier could be set on top of them.

I'm hoping to keep it one line for raising and lowering unless I'm overlooking something that could simplify the whole setup.

Would what I've drawn evenly hoist front and back at the same time even?

I would just use 2 pulleys. Place one directly over the center of the carrier with 4 ropes or cables with hooks to attach to the four corners of the carrier. Place the second pulley to the side, next to the wall, and install the cleat below it.

I don't think I could get it high enough to not hit my head when walking under it if I pulled from the center.

I bought one of these, for $8 it was worth it.

When you pull on the rope the first pulley the rope comes to moves up so when it raises you have to help the front of it, if that makes sense.
