How do I know what gear ratio I have?

How do I know what gear ratio I have, I have a 2001 Ford Explorer ST Job 2 4x4.

Should be a tag on rear axle. You can also look inside of glove compartment for sticker with info. Still cannot find it call Ford dealer parts and give them your vin#.

Also if your factory tires (shown on the door sticker) were P255/70-16's then it should have 4.10 gears. If they were P235/75-15's or P235/70-16's then it should have 3.73's. But the axle tag is the only way to know for sure.

the code is:

46 — 3.73 non-limited slip

42 — 4.10 non-limited slip

D4 — 3.73 limited slip

D2 — 4.10 limited slip

Fer, are those codes for any year? I can't find any of them on my '05.

Did you look on the tag on the door jam? That tag is used to ID your axle, interior color, exterior color, interior trim style, etc.

Yeah, looked at the door jam. Didn't see anything on it about the axle.

It is a code. Take a picture of the sticker and post it.

Yeah, I'm an idiot. Someone mentioned tires, and someone mentioned looking at the sticker on the door jam, so I'm looking at the Tire & Load specs on the jam itself, rather than the sticker on the door.
