The internet tells me that this is bogus, that the guy is a film major (?!!) and he cobbled together footage to make this.

It saddens me that RIT doesn't seem to live up to its rep for nerdiness as so many students didn't seem to know who M.C. Escher was, and according to Weird Al, he's every nerd's "Favorite MC" lol.

I dislike Snopes, but they have a writeup on it:

I think the easiest way would be to simply use identical or nearly identical Twins on each floor. or they are using two cameras in split-screen fashion. The divider wall between the ascending and descending stairs makes a perfect vertical divider separate the two camera images.

I personally think they used the split-screen from two cameras since there appears to be a slight delay as a person ascends the stairs on the left, turns at the landing before appearing coming up the stairs on the right. There should be no delay since it is just the thickness of the divider wall.

Perhaps it is a combination of split-screen for some shots, and identical twins used in other shots?

However it's done, it's done well--especially when compared to that ridiculously sloppy opening segment which introduced it...

Has anyone watched the TV show "the big bang"?

I've seen virtually every ep of The Big Bang Theory on CBS lol.

I think it would have been cooler if they had actually built a stairwell that used some sort of optical illusion to make it look as though you were going up the stairs when you were really going down them, as I believe the filmmaker was "disproving" when he walked around holding the glass of water.
