Use the clip tool and it comes right apart. You can get the tool from just about any parts store.

...and then the fun and blue air begins... Seriously though, I owned a '96 Bronco from 2001 to just a few months ago and had myself and 3 other mechanics try to get the filter off. Its still there having brought down every tool put to it. Doesn't matter any more-fellow that's got it now is converting it to a diesel.

So thats the way its done. using this tools. I didn't do my assignment before i start my project.

Thanks a lot! folks!! I will stop by to auto store this morning to finish it. i was half way when i quit it last night.:supercool::banana:

Just did this last night. I have both of those tools, and the metal one worked best on the side you have pictured. I giggled the connector a few times, hit it with some pb blaster, let it sit, then giggled it again. It then it came right off w/ the metal tool. Couldn't get it for the life of me w/ the plastic one.

Just a warning--if you pull out the seals inside, usually, you have to replace the fuel line. i can't tell you how many times people come in looking for the seals and clips inside those lines because they just yanked them apart!

give it a shot of wd40 or something first and let it sit for a while.

I could not get mine off with either the plastic or medal tool, let it sit over night after spaying, came right off.

As the others mentions, spray it with some lube and twist it back and forth a bit to get the lube to get to the seal and let it sit a bit. It will make it easier to do the job for you.

The plactic tools, made by lilse, I have used for years. They never failed me even on fords. The one in the orange package never used. Bought them at harbor freight store. The packaging claims for use on ford explores'.

I wonder do the members up north maybe have more problems. Because of salty winter roads?
