Ten days after seeing it in a yard with a For Sale sign on it I pulled the trigger and bought it today. Here’s some pictures of me bringing it home.

Its an ‘04 XLS. I bought it for $300. The previous owner said the thermostat housing was constantly leaking so he kept adding water. During that extreme cold snap we had in February it froze the water inside the block. He changed a busted freeze plug but to no avail there is now water in the oil. The engine is probably toast. I’ll bring it to my mechanic on Monday but it doesn’t look good for this motor. I’ll probably need to have a new motor installed.

Nice. Good luck with it.

It will be a Jasper remanufactured engine. Around $4,500 plus removal and installation which will be around $2,000. Expensive I know but it’ll have a 100,000 mile warranty. Here’s some pictures of it after I washed all he grime off.

I bought on 02 from a neighbor that cranked with no start. Turns out it jumped time. I just ordered a complete long block with a 3 year unlimited mile warranty for $2700 from Promar. It takes 4 to 5 weeks as they are built to order. No core charge if you return old block within 10 days. They cover all shipping to and from. Www.promarengine.com

Incredible value. around $6800 plus the hassle for a 2004 with zero time motor. Oh Yeah. How about a rebuilt trany while it's in the shop? Do the AC while at it.

I got over 220K on mine. Plastic thermoCrap hit me but no freeze here in FL. Hate I couldn't wait for the aluminum model. oh well.

Great Find. Enjoy for years...

Whoa.....hold on there. One big problem at a time. The previous owner said there was no issues with the transmission so I’ll leave it alone as I will with the A/C as he said it worked fine also.

I thought about pulling the engine myself but I don’t have a hoist and the neighborhood association would have a hissy fit.

Anyone know where I can get the plastic pieces under the rockers?
Gonna have to be a bit more specific, I think. Got a pic?

More specific? I can’t be anymore specific than that. They’re plastic and are under the rockers.
I think you mean the trim pieces that run the length of the rockers, yes? I would try ebay or salvage.

Nice!
White Gen 1's are the nicest!

since its an 04, beware of the "Inevitable" gauge cluster problems!

They start acting funny, I would send them straight out to be repaired.
My 05 was a HUGE headache until I just bit the bullet & sent them to be repaired.

& Do NOT get LED bulbs for the gauges if you ever do need to repair them or just need to replace the bulbs.
They do not work properly in these.

Thanks. When you said “sent them to be repaired”. Where? Why? What exactly was the problem? My local scrap yard, Pull-A-Part, has three Explorer Sport Tracs on their yard. I believe all of them have the white instrument cluster. I wonder if I should pick one up for a spare.

Damn man. He said nothing wrong. You get all worked up over nothing, just like you did above where I asked if you could be a bit more specific about what part you were looking for because "the plastic thing under the thing" tells people nothing.

After all of that you’re still taking the low road and attempting to give me advice? Never 👎🏿 comment on my thread again.
Only thing I'm sorry about are your anger issues. Please lighten up and wish you the best. Peace.
