I replaced the upper and lower ball joints, control arms, and outer tie rod ends by myself...all Moog. I took the truck to a shop to have the front end aligned. They called me back 30 minutes later saying they couldn't do it. Apparently, the inner tie rod ends were shot. They showed me. Yep...they were loose, especially the passenger side. I didn't have the right tools, so I had them replace them and finish the alignment. They charged me $413 (including the alignment). They used Raybestos parts with a lifetime warranty and guaranteed labor for two years. Did I get ripped off?

I don't know how accurate RepairPal estimates are.

Your complete job including alignment sounds reasonable.

how hard was the rest of what you did? do you have a process we can follow?

I didn't even think to take pictures and write it all up as a project. An air wrench and five-pound hammer are vital tools when changing the control arms. I needed a camber/castor kit for the driver side. It took two hours to change the driver side and 20 minutes to do the passenger side.

The outer tie rod ends were easy and took 15 minutes per side. Grease them up before installing because it's kind of hard to do after they're installed.

Well

I just did both of my outer tie rods. About $55 for parts (motocraft from rockauto) and it took me less than 1 hour to do both. I did pay an addtional $70 for alignment.
