I was wondering when the other VA Hospitals were going to get mentioned in this "Walter Reed" mess. I have yet to be to one that was worth a damn. I went to our main VA Hospital in my area after I got out to be checked for the "Persian Gulf Syndrome" when I got a notice in the mail stating I needed to go and be checked out. I set up the appointment and drove 2 hours to get to the Hospital, then proceeded to sit there for 3 hours past my appointment before seeing a doctor. He "talked", (I say "talked" because his english was absolutely horrible and I constantly told him to slow down and speak more clearly), anyway, he "talked to me for about 15 min and then told me to go and set up another appointment to get the testing done. I said, "I live 2 hours away, is there any way to get the tests done while I was there?" and was informed that the testing is all done for that day and since I wasn't seen by the doctor before a certain time (the time mentioned was 2 hours AFTER I checked in) I would have to schedule for another appointment. I told them what to do with thier test.

It is a sad state when we (actually the Government) spends all this money on sending our people to war, but then don't put any money into the medical system that is in place to take care of the ones that get wounded or hurt over there. I hope this opens thier eyes and they start funneling money into the Hospitals to help my fellow vets that paid and still are paying the price for freedom.

I don't mean for this to open a debate about the war. Just wanted to post my opinion and experience with this system. IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!

You're right stonemiser, it does suck. And another thing that sucks is the fact that non contributing slugs of all sorts get the red carpet treatment (at the taxpayers expense) at the local emergency room while our vets frequently get treated the way you did at the VA.

My dad (who is a vet of the Vietnam and gulf war) has never had one single problem with the VA hospitals he goes to (he has major problems with his lungs after being gassed in nam) I believe its all who you see and which hospital you go to. He has gone to both Fort Howard and also Fort Meade hospitals and got the best treatment.

My dad's experience is the same as ions' dad's. He tells me he receives excellent care at the VA hospital in Lexington, KY. He is 100% disabled from back injuries suffered in 'Nam and exposure to Agent Orange.

I am total and permanently disabled from my experience in Southeast Asia. I attend W.G. Hefner VA hospital in Salisbury NC. It is a very very old facility about 70 miles from my home. I have excellent experiences there. The biggest complaint I have is the travel pay. They still pay WWII scale. It's about .08 cent per mile.

I thank all Americans that pay taxes for helping me with medications and care.

Does the VA have problems? Yes, but what big business doesn't, espeically one ran by the government and is underfunded.

I don't disagree with any of the above but if some people get their way and we have government running all the health care, then we're all gonna be in the same boat.[/OT rant]
