It's just paint.

The majority of those concept cars are just rollers made from fiberglass. Too much money and time to form them out of metal.

It's aluminum, right Tiger.

Ford spent $5 million developing this car, and another $2 million just building this particular one. This is the first and only one of this type in existence, and was completed in early March 2005 in California. In January 2004 it was sketched out on paper. In February, a full-size mockup was molded in clay. Now, a year later, the real thing is on its way to the Detroit Auto Show, delivered by Kitty Hawk. This car wasn’t a mockup or a shell. The sculptor, designer and escort for the car is hoping it will take best of show this year.

This is the 2007 Ford Shelby GR1 concept car. If Ford decides to put it into production, potential buyers can expect to pay around $200,000 U.S. for it.

The entire exterior of the car is polished aluminum, and it has liquid cooled LED headlights...

My money is still on paint, Alsa paint. For the past few years there have been a number of cars painted the same way since Alsa introduced their Chrome FX paint.

"Liquid cooled LED headlights"? Uh, what? Why do you need liquid cooled headlamps? And on LED lamps that run 'cool to the touch' no less.

I hope Ford wasn't dumb enough to spend $7 million producing a single car. No wonder they have a hard time finding money. I know that concept cars are one way to liven up a company and spark interest, but $7 million? If buying an import is a nail in the coffin, a $7 million concept car is the hammer.

Rodger (& Georgia) is correct. This is a fully functional concept car. You can watch the creation of this car on Rides, Season 3, Episode 1.

Head Designers are J Mays and George Saridakis. The first version of this car was a silver painted shell. That is was what it was for it's first unveiling as well, then later they engineered the car based off of the previously designed Ford Shelby Cobra Concept codenamed Daisy.

Is it so fast they have to tie it down so it does not run away?:lol::lol:

Ok so they throw all that money at something a few hundred people can afford . . . . how is that going to save the company in the long run?

I saw that way back in the summer of '05 at the edmonton grand prix. nice car. It was here again last week at the Edmonton autoshow, and after 2 years of being shipped around there is a couple flaws on it. It was almsot sad to see...

This car was conceived as a possible replacement for the Ford GT supercar. It actually uses many of the suspension components from the GT. The big difference, of course, is that this car is a front engine design whereas the GT is a mid engine. The guys are correct in that the body is polished aluminum. I saw it at the NAIAS in Detroit in Jan 05.

Think of how many uaw non-workers sitting in a caferteria for 8 hours a day on the clock not to work that that $7 million would've supported, & for the length of time. SOB, gotta be enough to pay 16-28 unskilled uaw nonworkers for 6 years, maybe 22 with no union issues...
