Yeah...I have to be here Mon.- Sat now. I got 100% of the sales before so I don't gain anything.

All the other sales people, and the sales manager included, were not very aggressive in taking walk-ins or follow-up with their client base to begin with, so I pretty much take everything.

So what you're saying is that you basically ran everyone else off because you were the only aggressive shark in the tank!:cool::banana:

Carey, Sorry to here that news, but this may be one of those "one door closes and another opens" situation. I may be wrong, but it might be time to sit down with the owner and find out what direction he wants to go. Is the sale of the dealership possible? Does he want to rebuild his sales staff? It might be time to start putting some "feelers" out there just in case. Good luck and stay in touch, Bob ;)

All the money, all the women, all the cars. (sorry, old joke from a radio morning team here)

As long as the dealer stays in business. Ford dealer near my office that had been in business for over 70 years closed last week and merged with another one about 15 miles away.

Back in April, I went on a week-long vacation as one of four employees in our engineering department.

When I got back from vacation, layoffs had made me the only employee in the department.

So I kind of know the feeling.

In my case, that wasn't a good sign. In early October, I was also laid off--and in late October, the company went belly-up. Been hunting for work ever since...

I used to work at Jonathan Reid in Champlain Centre years ago. One day all the managers and some of the sales staff quit. I called up the district manager and started making deals over the phone until I got the pay and commission rate I was happy with and I got the assistant manager job. (I had no desire to get the manager position, I was still in college.) What were they going to do? It wasn't like the could afford to have me quit too and honestly, I was worried about my job once they hired more staff, but by then I had proven I could do the work and I was safe.

Maybe it's time to become a sales manager, or get a better deal then what you have now. You're in a position to bargain, and if you give them the out that if you can't prove you can do it then when they hire someone new you won't complain it's safer for both of you too.

He is going to a Ford dealership. Since we only sell Lincoln and Mercury, he has felt held back. I agree with him. I'd love to have the F150 and another couple models.

I see a blind ad in our local paper for a sales/sales manager position for a local dealership lol. This HAS to be mine.

I honestly want to move on. I don't want to sell cars forever. It's been good this year because I've busted my ass to get into the mid-high 40s. It was good last year and the year before but this year has been amazing. If I were in Vermont I would be making another 20gs on top of that because I'd have the volume.

I have the time to do better. I am always on top of my contact managment and prospecting. I take all the walk ins. I just don't have enough! I want more!

I'm tired of wrestling with customers over pricing. No matter what the state of the economy, no matter how easy it is to find dealer invoice or vehicle values online...customers still think they are getting taken. This is usually more of a problem on used cars. I'm just tired of it.

I'm tired of initially being insulted and treated like crap before someone even knows me. I've got a family and a mortgage like everyone else. I've got car payments and chores waiting for me at home...ya know what I mean?

I'm tired of spending hours with a single customer and another two hours teaching them about their new car. We have no F&I department so I do the entire sales process, finance process and the delivery process. Sometimes I even have to wash the damn cars myself so it gets done! It takes nearly an entire day to sell two loaded Lincolns with navigation and Sync. I only make $165 per car so it sucks even more!

I've also been told that we are picking up Kia. The problem with this is that Lincoln Mercury told us that we cannot take on another non-FMC franchise. If we do, they will pull our LM franchise and pay us a few hundred grand as part of the termination package. We know this as fact because we tried to do this last year and that is what they said. Of course....I didn't hear about any of this information until my ex-salesmanager told me about it as he was staging to leave!

I don't know... in light of all thats been taking place I think I'm going to step up the heat on some other employment prospects as well as apply for sales manager. I don't think I would get it here. I'm known as the guy who doesn't get stepped on and always speaks up and speaks his mind. They don't like it. If people mess up I call them on it. My managers are HUGE buck passers and I don't let it happen if I get involved. It pisses them off sometimes but I think people should own up to their mistakes.

PsycoCarey, don't worry- you are smart, a hard-worker, and on top of your game. You see what is going on. The short term might be rocky, but the way you are going, something will break, a door will open, etc. You will be just fine in the long-run. You have a very good foundation for success.

Yeah, I used to hate my job when I was younger. As I get older, I realize it isn't the job that I hate. I really hate WORKING!!!
