In case anyone has been wondering why I've not been around....

Had rotator cuff surgery three weeks ago. This is very painful surgery with a long recovery time. Limited to a reclining chair, internet on a touchpad, and typing with one hand, which is very frustrating. Especially on a touchpad when you touch the wrong letters, which happens a lot. Watching the NFL Network and Top Gear 24/7 is much easier. Then last week I developed an infection and had to have surgery again to flush it out. Now I'm on antibiotics too, which are at war in my stomach with the painkillers. Antibiotics give me the runs, painkillers stop me up, so as a result of taking both I fart a lot.

Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all yaz. Hope to be back to 100% in a few months.

JohnnyO,

Take care buddy...I feel your pain...or at least I can sympatize with you. I had problems with my right shoulder about 13 years ago. The doctors said I had a damaged rotator cuff. He gave me a steroid injection in the shoulder joint. Next day it felt like I had my arm ripped out of the socket, but it did not help at all. He sent me to Physical Therapy and they discovered that my shoulder blade was injured and had locked itself to the back of my rib cage. After weeks...of physical therapy and a lot of sleepless nights it finally started to get better. The physical therapy finally restored about 90% of the motion in my shoulder and the last 10% was the hardest and took well over 4 months until I felt normal again....Then about 3 years later I injured my left shoulder exactly the same way...and the process started all over again, but this time I caught it early and it only took about half the time to rehab.

Good luck and just take it easy and it will eventually come around.

Johnny, my prayers for your wellness for Christmas day.

I sure you are in for a long rehab, though. Hope it goes' well...

John, I work in an operating room and do mostly orthopedic surgery. As far as recovery time, was yours done arthroscopically? Or was the shoulder opened up? An open procedure will take a significant time to heal and rehab. Much less time arthroscopically. Rehab usually starts in the first week, with full motion after about 12-16 weeks. Good luck, I'm sure all will be fine. Bob

PS: As far as the other thing (TMI) my granma used to say, "more room out, than there is in" :bwahaha:

I had a complete shoulder reconstruction with the main issue being a torn labrum. Pretty much everything was destroyed, though. Was supposed to be arthroscopic until they got the camera in there and realized how bad it was. Got a nice 2 in. scar to show for it.

It was painful and rehab sucked. It seemed terribly slow at first but then after a while improvements were seen much more rapidly after a while. I don't have the r.o.m. I had before but that's because I was a pitcher in baseball, which was in part responsible for the elasticity of the tendons and the sudden pop that occurred on the football field.

Basically, if you absolutely hate your therapist, he/she is good. I'm pain free now and glad I had the surgery. My shoulder doesn't just fall out of socket when I roll over in my sleep any more!

Praying for a speedy recovery.

Bob C..... They were able to scope it, although I got 4 holes instead of the usual 3. Only a little bit of the muscle was torn off the bone but the thickness of it was torn 90% through all the way across. Had my first PT session today.

I know that surgery sucks!

I had a very similar surgery when I swam in high school. The doc said if I wanted to swim competitively in college I had to get this surgery, if not my shoulder would be to weak. I had shredded my rotor cuff, labrium, and had to get a capsule release on my shoulder. Turns out I woke up during surgery! Which was awkward haha and then they had put in dirty stitches into my shoulder so I had to get opened up again and restitched probably a month after surgery. "Couch" rest sucks, you'll do a lot of sleeping sitting up on the couch and sometimes you dont leave that couch for a few days.

Best thing is to just keep a positive attitude, have your friends come over and watch football or play an ass load of video games haha. Get one of those foam wedges for when you move to the bed, it helped me so my shoulder wouldn't roll around, I could lay down finally.

Stretch when you can and get that range of motion back! Best of luck for a speedy recovery!

it's been a lil' over a year since i had mine. complete tear and an 80% tear as well.

i feel your pain and uncomfort. hang in there and do what you are supposed to and make sure you go to PT.

i just had my annual eval and it appears i have a 25-30% permanent loss. swimming, basketball are pretty much done and putting a jacket on sucks!

oh well, best of luck and when you are down and out just take a good look at one of your awesome greyhounds :supercool:
