Very good read. I learned about the battle on the overpass during my trip to Dearborn. Henry Ford was upset becuase there was a movement to unify. He felt he did more for the employees then was the call of duty.
What the site failed to mention is that the Japanese plants in the US do not have any employees that are retired. They came here with a fresh start. The government does not require them to provide healthcare, perscription, any type of retirement plan (i.e. 401(k), pension, etc.). Whatever they offer the employees is done out of fear that a union could come in.
They get the support of the "blind" American peple that think that they are supporting America by buying a Honda or Toyota. No matter what the cost, we should ALWAYS provide for our elders. They are the reason we are here.
The imports building plants in the US also puts a strain in the region they are in. So many communities compete for a plant to be built, they give the land away, they offer huge tax breaks, they give anything to get the work. While that is not a bad thing, the problem is if one of the big three wanted to leave an area, few, if any, communities would give them anything to stay.
