I am a cross of German and Swiss herritage. My mom is from Hannover, Germany and dad's family is from Bern, Switzerland. I like to listen to music from Europe. I try to listen to the weather from cities in Germany and Switzerland.

In my searches for radio stations in Europe and other parts of the world, I came across this website. Very cool. Check it out.

I listen to Austrailia's Triple-J all the time. I like the variety they provide and the commentary from a different perspective. Of course, I hope to relocate myself to that Continent, so at least I know I'll have seomthing good to listen too...lol.

If I were to move out of the USA, Germany would be one of the top places I would move to. I have family there I keep in contact with. Not sure I would move to Hannover though. Not a real big fan of that city. I really like Mannheim. Spent three months there on business. Got to know that town very well. Close to Heidleberg, Frankfurt, Wiesbaden, etc. Three hour train ride to Hannover, Braunschweig, or Munich.

Beautiful country.

Tom,

I'll post some pictures of Germany for you when I get to Poland. I'm told I'll need to in-process in Germany before I report for work in Poland, since my personnel office will be located at Ramstein. I'm sure I'll be visiting a lot of the surrounding countries on long weekends. Of course I'll visit some of the Polish sites as well.

I also like to listen to the overseas radio stations. Before I got XM I listened a lot more though.

Hhhhmmm...Caymen singing the praises of web radio in one thread and panning sat radio in the other. So, I guess it isn't the diversity of sat radio that gives you pause, just the cost, Tom? If web radio was charged for, would you get it?

Don't think I was singing praises about "webradio". I was enjoying the fact that I can listen to real radio ststions from other parts of the world.

I figured I made that clear in the other thread. Why would I pay for radio to only listen to in for less then an hour a day. What is wrong with that? I sid that all from the begining.

Are you looking to cause trouble?

If web radio was charged for, would you get it?

Nope. I have more important things to spend my money on.

What is your ultimate point? Are you just trying to fish for your own warped pleasure?

What gives?

Tom

Caymen,

I am not looking to cause any trouble and not looking to satisfy my own warped pleasure; I was just trying to talk. I was trying to understand if you felt there was any "premium value" to web radio given that provides access to increased versus over OTA (by that, I mean would you be willing to pay for it).

You are enjoying free web radio enough to discuss it here so clearly you see some value. I was just trying to understand if you could put a price on it? Is it worth pennies a day to you? Sounds like it isn't.

To many people it is worth pennies a day to have sat radio, even if they only listen to the radio a hour or so a day. That seems to you to be a foreign concept given the other thread. But then, I read this thread, and clearly you do value "niche" programming, which is one of the value-adds of sat radio.

Remember, the fact that you wouldn't pay pennies a day for something, doesn't mean that it's not a sound business. For example, you stated here several months back that you "have better things to do than waste your time playing video games", but clearly that's a billion dollar a year marketplace.

So, yeah, I figured I would try to get to the bottom of another seeming "Caymen Contradiction", but alas, I guess it's another one for mystery archives.

;)

Thanks for discussing, and thanks for the link,

TJR

It is pennies a day for this, pennies a day for that. Before you know it, you are looking for dollars a day, hundreds a dollars a week, and thousands of dollars a month. It adds up.

Poin is, I never said those that pay for satellite radio are stupid. I simply said that it isn't for me and I feel it is a waste. I also said I doubt it will last.

As for video games, I guess it is the same with the porn industry. It is a billion a year marketplace, but that doesn't mean everyone should embrace it.

I am not contradicting myself. Simply put, I, like others, have priorities. I don't feel paying a monthly price to listen to the radio isn't worth it. I have had both Sirius and XM equipment at my house. I have been tempted on more then one occasion to install it to listen to one of those 80's metal stations. The thought of paying 10 bucks a month to listen to it wasn't worth it. That is why the equipment went on eBay. (The original reason to buy the equipment was to sell in the first place)

The same goes with those MP3 "rental services". I could go to iTunes and buy the MP3's, or I could buy an MP3 player and "rent" them to play on my MP3 player. Not for me. I might as well buy the original CD and rip it to MP3. I own a hard copy of my money I spent and I am not going to rent music. Then again, that is me.

If Serius offered internation radio where I could listen to real radio stations from around the world, I MIGHT consider it.
